Because the owners are private citizens, who have not given me permission to divulge their names or locations. Why is that so difficult to accept. They were kind and gracious enough to allow us to see them, and share information about them. We simply must respect their right to privacy.

Dear F.A.,

You mention that the clothes from the cases were burned.  Was this done for hygienic reasons since the cases had traveled so far across Europe with the potential for vermin to have gotten to them?   If it was for other personal reasons, we can leave it at that.

O.K. but imagine what interesting exibits these cases and whatever contents is left would make at the Alexander Palace.  But I think there is probably nothing left. I just thought it was odd that people are so secretive about things like this so long after the event, when most other details about this period are so accurately documented. It would have been so interesting and fascinating if we could have seen this bit of history.

I certainly agree with that and I trust there very good reasons for it. I can't imagine the sercurity bills if it got out
The Romanovs still have the ability to get people wacky...very much so

Fascinating thread. I look at this stunning  sliver and plate and wonder how it all came tumbling down?
Amazing.

LOVE the Purple Service. Shame it was used so rarely. I notice that the teacups are of the English style rather than being Russian tea glasses. Very characteristic of Alexandra, it seems.

There was also the dinner set given as a wedding present to A&N by Kaiser William. I saw some pieces in the exhibition in Delaware a few years ago. It is a beautiful set.

Since the Catherine Palace was so close in proximity to the Alexander Palace, were services used interchangeably between the two palaces?

These are not from the Alexander Palace, however I thought it may be of interest.  We have recently acquired four tea napkins from the Alexander III service.  20 inches per side, very very fine linen damask that feels almost like silk.  They are white, but the photo is a bit darker so that you can see the detail.  Thought you might enjoy seeing what they look like.

Very nice acquisition.   I'm curious - what will you do with the four of them?  Will you display them in some way, maybe in a shadowbox?

Yes, but it's not difficult to understand that the Romanov family may not want everything of the IF's (especially these trunks, which contained many personal items) to be public domain.

Anyway, I have really enjoyed reading this thread. Thank you to everyone who has contributed.
