Why was Elisabeth Feodorovna jealous of Elisabeth Mavrkievna?

In 1891 GD Sergei was leaving for Moscow for his governorship and naturally divested himself from his  Colonelcy-inChief of privileged Preobrazhenskiy Regiment. GD Konstantin K. became the new Chief and his wife GDss Elizaveta M. was overjoyed with such a change in their life.
So someone began to spread rumours that GDss Ella was jealous of her namesake's preparing to be the first lady of the Regiment.

Yes, this is what I was thinking of too. Maria Feodorovna seems to have been one of the "someones" because she commented to Nihcolas (see Bing-edited letters for example) that when people teased Ella, saying Mavra would be "Regiment Mother" in her place, Ella went pink with rage.

That's just amusing! Why on earth MF considered Ella went pink of rage? Exactly of rage?...Actually to be honest Empress MF in that time had suspicions about Ella's role in Nikolai/Alix of Hesse romance (we know she didn't want their marriage), so she could not be objective to the Grand Duchess.

Moscow's Clique -- Ella, GD Nicholas, GD Xenia Alexandrovna, 'vs' Alexandra Feodorovna, who firstly had good relationship with Stana and Militsa.

I think MF also includes in this gruop against Vyrubova and Empress.

Indeed, Maria Feodorovna hated Alexandra and Vyrubova.

I have to add that I think that Maria Feodorovna had a very difficult character, and I think that her deep hatred for Alexandra was excessive and counterproductive...but this is just my opinion.

Many of the feuds were counter productive. Many thought the Romanovs' lack of unity helped the Revolution along. Prince Felix Y and Grand Duke Dmitri were trying to, in killing Rasputin, get rid one of the things that was ruining the reputation of the Romanov dynasty, but in the end they simply created more feuds, more issues- I guess they couldn't see that.

Scandals surrounding the Imperial Family
« Reply #22 on: September 25, 2012, 12:16:40 PM »
Ok, so seeing as the Romanovs' British cousins, the Windsors, have been involved in many a scandal recently, I was just wondering if anyone knows of any scandal/s which afflicted the Romanovs during their reigns - besides the Alexandra/Alexei/Rasputin one. It would also be interesting to know how the IF dealt with the press at the time.

Many thanks guys!

Kind of an apples oranges thing I think.  The rise of the papparazzi has changed things quite a bit. While there were scandals they were not widely reported as is the case now and the press in those days were much more restrained. Scandal is something that was usually passed word of mouth through the nobility for the most part.

Was the press heavily censored in Nicholas's reign then?
