Help with a "lost" thread, please!
« on: April 05, 2006, 06:14:20 AM »
Hello! I was searching for the thread "Seven princesses for Bertie", what contains a lot of info about the suitable brides for the prince of Wales, and I have found it in the page 30, but It´s impossible to access to the thread: an error has ocurred, unable to open text, is the message that I receive. I need the info about the princesses, because I just remembered the names of two of them, Elisabeth of Wied and Anna of Hesse by the Rhine. Anyone can help me, please, please?

I had the exact same problem with the "Constituional Monarchy as a Political System" thread.  One of the purposes of this forum is for research.  Therefore, the FA should give participants access to the old threads.

Hopefully it's just a glitch that'll get worked out. If the threads weren't going to be accessible (permanently) they  might as well have been deleted, thus reducing the number of pages to search through. I don't think that they are meant to be inaccessible, though. (Fingers crossed since I posted a lot of stuff on those old threads!)

I need to retrive some information from three separate threads, including "Constitutional Monarchy...".

I hope none of them is lost "forever".
It would be like "go on posting, in a year or two its gone anyway".

Sorry, I know this probably has been discussed somewhere at length, but I was just wondering about the old threads! Can I assume they are not coming back ever? ??? :)
Thanks for you reply...

The lesson to learn in this is NOT to commit information which is of importance to you to the Forum without making sure you copy it.   That way you are protected.   I am almost totally e-literate, but I can see it is impossible to guarantee postings will not at some time or other simply disappear.   There were some amazing Windsor threads (these suffered most of all) which are gone for ever.   These are irreplaceable. I think it is safe to say it is impossible to harvest so much information in any other single place anywhere in literature.   This is typical of life.   We do not value what we have, until we lose it.   I do hope, as Grandduchessella says, in this case the material can be retrieved.

I think that on another thread similar to this one--in Forum Announcements or Discussion forum--the FA responded that the threads weren't coming back. They are, however, archived apparently and he has access to them--but they're in a 'read only' style or something like that. If my memory serves (always a big If) the FA can be contacted for specific information from a thread but that's all.

I found the post:

"It has nothing to do with the speed of the forum.  For some reason those Windsor threads just can't be opened with the upgraded version of the software. Even the people who wrote the software are stumped as to why.  Their only explanation is that our forum is just much larger than they ever expected anyone would be running.

Sorry, but as I've said before, if there is something specific you need from those threads, you can write me and I can copy it out of the archived old forum for you.  Thats the best we can do right now."
