When I used to lurk around on here, I remember reading Tania's posts. I do hope she is okay!

Ironic that Jen94 was the last to post here, since it seems she has become the latest member of the APTM to do a Jimmy Hoffa impression.  She hasn't been seen since April 21.

This is an interesting thread. I used to post here a lot, back in the day( I joined in August, 2005). Then I posted less and less after about 2009. I just got caught up in other websites, many of which barely existed or did not exist in 2005, and in other interests and online friendships. I think that's probably happened to others who no longer post here much or at all. It's sad Alixz left, and that Tania hasn't posted in such a long time. I barely know who posts here anymore. Sometimes I think people just have their say here and then move on to other things. I ran up thousands of posts on here, but nowadays I look back and realize some stuff I posted on here when I was say, 19( I'm 28 now) was not the perspective I would have to day and that some of my posts were immature or repetitive or both. I regret that. But at least I was a 19- 20 year old who enjoyed history, even if I am sure I would have contributed more to the forum if I hadn't posted so much at one time. I think it's interesting to get new faces in online forums. I feel nostalgia for what this forum used to be like, even while I really don't know what it's like today. I just logged in here yesterday because I saw an article about the Romanovs and then I remembered I hadn't glanced at this forum in months. So I came here and saw this thread.

I used to be friends with Tania on here, and off of here. I thought then and I still think she's a very interesting person. I didn't know her father was mentioned in a book about the Romanovs? Which book was that- ''Years?'' I've read so many books on the Romanovs that I don't remember which one that was. I looked her up online and it looks to me like she's doing fine, though I haven't had any contact with her since she stopped posting here. People sometimes just fall out of contact online or stop posting on forums because they move on to other  things, online and off.

Ha ha ha well Imperial Angel, there is a blast from the past. I was only thinking about you the other day. Yes, those were the good old days weren't they !
I think people drifted off from here after the second grave was found and the remains identified but that's just my humble opinion. Goodness me, so many interesting and fun posters have drifted away. Etonexile and the divine Martyn to name but two oh and how can I forget Eddie uk. - sigh - those were the days.

I don't go back very long like many of you AP veterans (although I did hover over the site for a while before officially joining). What I'm seeing more and more of is the explosion of social media, something that was in its infancy when this forum began back in 2003/04. Far as I can tell there is no less interest in the Romanovs/royalty it's just that it's spread out over more platforms. I subscribe to a few group pages on Facebook, for example, where I'm consistently getting information on the topics that interest me most.

But we should all keep in mind that there's a difference between traffic to a site and the activity on its boards. There may have been only 842 new posts last month. Roughly one-tenth the all-time high of 8,405 set back in October, 2006, but there were also 2.83-million page views. That's more than 3 1/2 times the total traffic this page was getting in 10/06. People are visiting the forum in record numbers, but because so many topics of interest have been so thoroughly discussed there is far less reason to post. Unlike a typical "fan page" we aren't following the lives of the living here on the AP. Or at least that isn't the main focus. These people are dead and gone for decades or centuries now and there is a finite amount of "new" information being revealed.

Yes indeed, those were the days!!!! There is a lot less activity today, which is a pity, but I suppose things (and Forum members) move on!

Oh, Martyn and Eddie UK--how I miss them! Martyn was my very first friend here on the Forum. I tried communicating with him over the years since he's fallen off but to no avail.

A lot of members are on Facebook groups such as Queen Victoria's Granddaughters (set up by Forum member Ilana Miller) and others.

I wish there was more activity here because the old days WERE golden.

I was a lurker through the "golden" days of the Forum, and I've been a member since 2008, so I have a pretty good idea what you guys are reminiscing about.  I wish I had joined earlier, but I was just too shy.  Unfortunately, I think a lot of people have moved on to Tumblr and other social media sites, which is why participation is down around here.  That's my best guess, anyway...

Yes, but that still doesn't explain why they have to sever ties with the friends they made here.  Why do e-mails and such go unanswered?  Why do they turn into a 21st Century Jimmy Hoffa and/or Judge Crater?

I'm wondering if they receive email notifications about PMs--I've missed several PMs of late because the notifications have been sent to my spam box, and other messages just never get through.  Maybe some of them aren't deliberately severing ties with us  :-\

Yes, but I've e-mailed RHB directly and she won't answer.  In fact, her e-mail now bounces back, this means:

1.  Her Inbox is so full of unanswered e-mails, there is no room for new ones.

2.  Her account has been inactive so long that it was shut down.

Either way, RHB was just gone, with no apparent explanation, vanished like a thief in the night.  That's a lousy thing to do to an online friend, especially when you're involved in an interactive writing project with them.
