Was Rasputin a homosexual?
« on: January 04, 2013, 09:04:38 AM »
Is there any proof for Rasputin beeing bi- or homosexual? The other day I watched a documentary about Rasputin on youtube where Orlando Fidges stated that he might had had a sexual relationship with Felix Yusupov. The writer Asta Scheib was spinning an alike plot in her book "Frost und Sonne" about the Yusupov family and Rasputin.
Are there any files or documents which proof this theory?

There are none whatsoever from what I have seen.  There is also no evidence for his bi sexuality towards anyone else either, while on the other hand his affinity for women and sexual relations with them is substantiated by a mountain of proof.

Thank you for your quick reply! I read and heard a lot about Rasputin's attraction to women, too.

Hmmm, I too have heard it mentioned. Since I cannot recall from where exactly I also can't argue whether there are any factual references supporting the idea or merely unsubstantiated rumors. Figes "A People's Tragedy" may have mentioned it but I'll have to dig through the book to figure out what his source was, if any.

You're right. Maybe Figes' mentioned it in "A People's Tragedy "too. It's several months ago I read the book.

In my opinion it's an interesting aspect and it might have influenced the "relationship" between Rasputin and Jusupov. Rasputin is said to have joined the Khlysts during his journeys in Russia and as far as I know their estatic rituals sometimes turned into orgies.

I looked itup. Figes mentions in 'A people's tragedy', that Rasputin was related to homosexual circles in St. Petersburgant that he liked both, women and men. Part II, chapter 7, p- 313 f., German Edition Berlin Verlag , 2008). Jussupow is said to have consulted Rasputin due to cure his homosexuality, but was seduced by Rasputin. I'm wondering where Figes read about this?

I'll give it a look. I just forgot to. Figes keeps pretty good references if memory serves correctly. I would be fascinated to know where he got that from.

From this point of view the murder of rasputin might not only be commited to save Russia and the Romanow rule and to stop Rasputin's influence on the Tsarina. Felix Jussupov and GD Dimitri might have had in addition other more personal reasons to get rid of Rasputin....

What do you think?

Here we are moving along a very slippery and trickery road, that of rumor and slander. But that is nothing new, we have done so about Rasputin for the last hundred years. However, you will never find any reliable source and proof of Rasputin's homosexual involvement.

I absolutely agrre with you. Nowadays it can just be speculation. But I'm interested in Figes' sources. He's a historian, not a storyteller!

I dunno, but I certainly wouldn't put it past him. He obviously wasn't exactly picky...
