How about this, AlexeiLVR . . . we'll continue to keep our high expectations of good behavior at this website, and since you're such a clever person, you'll have no problem meeting them.  :)

That goes for everyone else as well, by the way!  :D

Mandie and OTMAFan, very well said.  Being Russian has nothing to do with the amount of knowledge one has regarding the history of that or any other country.  I'm Russian as well.  I was born there and came to the States when I was ten, but that has nothing to do with how much Russian history I know.  The only thing that a native of any country has going for him or her is the amount of exposure to the history of his/her nation.  However, even that doesn't make anyone automatically an expert.  In fact, after being a member of this forum, I saw how little I know, and that has inspired me to learn and read more.

Now, on the topic at hand.  In the era that Aleksey and his sisters grew up, "dating" in the way that we understand it didn't exist.  Not for the upper classes anyway.  Most upper class and especially royal marriages were arranged and the couple didn't really have a chance to date, in our sense of the word.  I also think Aleksey wouldn't have discovered girls untill a little older.  From his letters and such one can get the drift that his main concern was playing and doing his lessons.  His childhood affection for Princess Ilena was perhaps nothing more then that.  We will never know, because he didn't survive to the age of marriage.

My two kopeks on all this.  Feel free to correct me, since I'm sure I have made a mistake somewhere.  I'm a little lazy in terms of checking my sources.

Dasha your entrie is quite true, but the reason why I said i'm Russian so i know more or what ever i said, is because most likely Russians are in terested in their history the most, there fore they what to learn more about it!

Vera!! You're starting to go on bad side, you MUST understand. So what i'm not Russian, but Ilatian, does that mean I know more Italian History? No! and I KNOW ALOT of Russian history...... because i have be studying it for five or more years!

Never mind, AlexeiLVR. I take that back, I am sure you are a 13-year-old Russian girl.

I really doubt that Alexie had any girlfriends... He scarcely had any playmates at all.

The Tsar and Tsarina were careful to select boys that would not play rough with their beloved son, lest he suffer from an injury and a bleeding episode.

Could someone let us know if they were selected from cadets at the military academy or sons of the sailors on the Standart?  I do know about Alexei and Serge Derevenko, Kolya Derevenko, Vasya Ageev and Zhenya Makarov (sp?), and that at the Stavka, Alexei Nikolaevich headed a 'poteshny' regiment of local boys.

Elizabeth, I believe the last two names you listed were of boys who attended a cadet school.  They were referred to as "cadets" by the Tsar in his letters.  I would imagine that the boys Aleksey assiciated with in his later years would be from a cadet school rather then sons of the sailors of the Standart, or the children of servants and staff members.  Perhaps that was done to esnsure that the boys were from an "appropriate" background and what have you.  All of this is a pure guess, so feel free to correct me.

I really think that this topic is getting a bit vulgar... I mean -- he was 14! Honestly!

Not to mention that 14 year olds of those days would have been what is considered 'immature' or maybe naive these days - at least in their social class - kids seem to be forced to grow up a lot more quickly these days and vulgar images are all over the show - billboards, magazines, TV etc.

What I meant by not playing rough with Alexei Nikolaevich is that the boys N+A approved as playmates would not push him, shove him, punch him, slap him, kick him or hit him like boys his age would normally tussle on the playground.

The Tsarevich was just a kid when these arrangements were made by his parents.  Absolutely no innuendo was implied in my previous post!

He was about a month away from turning 14 when he was murdered.  So 13 or 14 works.  I consider myself 19 now though my birthday's not for another week. ;)
