Abdication & Enthronement on april 30th 2013

Thank you Lucien for the information and the link to that website with such wonderful photos of the castle.  I agree it is lovely, and seems larger and more comfortable from the inside than it appeared in photos from the outside.

For one person it is more than adequate, but I suppose my observation of its modest size is because I automatically wonder what size of household the future Princess Beatrix will maintain in her retirement.  I assume she will still have private secretaries and other support staff to organize her schedule and administer her affairs,  a security detail to guard her, and some amount of domestic staff (cook, housekeeper, driver, gardeners, etc.).  Not to mention, family / friends and official guests visiting her throughout the year.

Sure Chris, there's room for all that & them provided within the castle itself and the two buildings
to the left and the right of the cour you see on the photos. :)

The Dutch Royal Mint issued a new two euro coin today with the profiles of Queen Beatrix and the future King Willem Alexander.

http://www.knm.nl/

As it was confirmed today, the Dutch Royal Barge will be in use on april 30th.

The Barge, commisioned by King Willem I and build between 1816 and 1819
was last used by Queen Juliana during her Silver Wedding festivities in 1962.
It now is on view at the Maritime Museum,Amsterdam and recently...last week..
the museum received 1 million euro by a lottery here to restore the Royal Barge.

Welcome Jen!Yes ofcourse and last time,in 1980,Charles was in attendance. As an Heir...he is most likely to
be in attendance again and this time with his Duchess. But we''ll know for sure the
weekend before as that will be when our Royal House will publish the guestlist. But for now we'll
have to see who of them pops up.Invitations have been send a while ago and allthough one can
see engagements planned prior to the 30th of april,it's easy to switch.

And Dutch coffee brand Douwe Egberts has turned the colour of the packages from red into orange:

http://www.anpfoto.nl/search.pp?eventid=1486662

While the National Glas Museum at Leerdam initiated an exhibition of a line of orange vases with the data
of commemorative events of the Royal House and all Dutch Princes and Princesses:

Meanwhile work on the Rijksmuseum that has been under extensive renovation for the past 10 years are completed and the press had a view last thursday of the absolutely breathtakingly beautifull Museum, restored to it's original splendour, and where no piece has it's old place except Rembrandt's Nightwatch at the end of the Gallerie 'd Honneur, the Ere Galerij. The Museum will be officially re-opened by HM The Queen on the 13th of april....But before that there's the housewarming parties for the Patrons and Friends of the Rijksmuseum tonight and tomorrow afternoon...!..:)...
Can't wait!..

The Rijksmuseum will be the venue for the gala dinner hosted by HM Queen Beatrix on the eve of april 29th
for the Members of the Dutch Royal Family and the Royal guests from abroad as well as representatives of all
other foreign missions.

Interesting too as the Dutch Royals have the next most interesting Enthronement after the British that is...Theirs is a Coronation
but ours is 2nd as none of the other Royal & Imperial Courts hold these Inauguration/Enthronement ceremonies like we do here.
Belgium has a Swearing-in ceremony in Parliament,as do Sweden & Norway & Spain.Denmark has the proclaiming of the new
Monarch and the death of the former from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace. All in all always due to to be mourned predecessors.
Not here, - (and, btw, not in Luxembourg either) .We change when everything is still ok healthwise and looking good for the previous
Monarchs who will be known by their former title of Prince/Princess after the Abdication.

At the Prinsenhof,Delft, once the residence of Prince Willem the Silent, and venue of his murder in 1584,an exhibition is opened on the
Heads of the House of Orange Nassau,From Willem to Willem,it holds portraits of the 7 Prince Stadtholders and the  -  almost - 7 Monarchs.

Yes, our one is a coronation over here. Obviously, the next coronation Great Britain will see is Prince Charles, then William's, then their child's coronation and so on....That reminds me, I Must try and find a DVD of the Queen's coronation! Our Coronations here usually happen in Westminster Abbey, and I think, followed by a Balcony appearance at Buckingham Palace.  I'm not sure how they honor the previous Monarch at a coronation actually as I've obviously never seen one, yet.

It's certainly interesting how the crowning of the next Dutch Monarch will be happening, as it is with all how the different countries do it. It's funny, I thought all countries have a straight forward Coronation like we do here in the UK, until now!
