Looking at the jewelry collections of Olga & Marina. It seems Princess Nicholas saved up quite a collection for her daughters despite having to sell quite a bit to open her children's school in Paris.

Marina was not always even-tempered. The events of the years of exile had marked their imprint on her character, aging her prematurely and leaving her an acute sense of the insecurity, expressed by her reserve and a way of being distant, with whom her best friends sometimes collided themselves.

Yes. Marina was a complex character but she was also a proud one. She did not beg for more money for herself after the civil for her husband stopped after his death. Only the sale of her husband's antique collection and cash contribution from King George VI & Queen Mary saved her from a strapped position for cash.
