A charming painting of Princess Elisabeth of Greece & Denmark, Countess of Toering-Jettenbach, pastel painting by the painter Vera Stanley Alder around 1920-30.

A little bit sad also or simply melancholic air on this photo of engagement :

A rare photo indeed. The groom looks very nice and relaxed in the photo.

I think this is from the Hesse Darmstadt archives (with watermarks). I always suspect there was a friendship between the prettiest of the Andrew & Nicholas girls (Cecilie & Marina). Of the two I read Cecilie was the sweeter of the two, though both pretty & elegant.

I always find it strange that during different periods of time, one of the was prettier than the other...during their youth(late teens and early twenties) Olga was the one who was more pretty, while during their 30ties Marina was the one who bloomed...and also Elizabeth, she looked better in years after her marriage imo.

Elizabeth I read was the most intelligent of the sisters and the most low profile.

Although they were mostly Danish and Russian in blood, they look very Greek, most especially Marina who has that profile as shown in that photo above by KarlandZita!

Eric, you're a writer, right? I think it would be nice if you take Elizabeth as your subject someday : )  I'm really sad she has got a few things about her although she was as as interesting as her sisters are.

Amazing colored fotos  by the most wonderful Yelena Aleksandrovna. Endless thank you very much!

She is one of the most difficult subjects to research. I will give it a try. Indeed from what I hear she was the smartest of all her sisters.

If we talk about "blood" and ancestry they are German...Officially,out of their 128 ancestors only one is not German by blood.

And trust me, Germans (German women too) can have huge "Greek" noses! As was said of the new Princess Georg-Friedrich of Prussia née Princess Sophie of Isenburg: Bien née / nez :>)

Берёзы севера мне милы,—
Их грустный, опущённый вид,
Как речь безмолвная могилы,
Горячку сердца холодит.

The Princesses were German by blood But Greek by Adoption (they were all born there).
