The Princesses were German by blood But Greek by Adoption (they were all born there).

We were talking about blood...Grand Princess Shandroise said:"Although they were mostly Danish and Russian in blood..."

And I responded that they were exclusively German by blood, with just 1 out of 128 official ancestors not being German by blood...

Well...Blood is not so important anymore. The Crown Prince of Serbia has Greek blood and German blood too. His grandmother was Aspasia Manos. A real Greek and so is his present wife. Does that make his more acceptable to the Greeks ?

I think we should remember that Prince Wilhelm of Gucksborg (George I) was offered the Greek throne because he had no Greek blood.

Eric, the discussion IS NOT  about importance of the blood, Marc and other posters  just stated the fact of German blood and no more. Don't lead the topic to nowhere as you love.

True,we discussed only facts about their ancestry, not our personal views or public acceptability about it...

I think it was Marc who bring up the subject of blood. I am perfectly ok with that until the Russian brought out the "Greek nose" etc. I think the subject went off after that.

Marc stated the fact and didn't say anything on the importance of the blood, it was you who touched the importance. And let's back to the Princesses.

That was the Russian guy...

There is no info about Elizabeth and her family after the war except her health was not as good as before and her looks faded according to Prince Paul of Yugoslavia.

Eric,it was neither me nor the "Russian guy"(every poster here has it's own name) which started the discussion is blood "important or not anymore"...we were just discussing THE FACTS about their blood, without giving any kind of personal opinion about the exact importance their ancestry...just proven historical facts that stand which are very easy to find everywhere...

NepebeA...is the name of the Russian guy who talks about "German woman with Greek nose". That is talking about race and their attributes not necessarily facts. Like Prince Philip talk about Asian "slanty eyes"...

Anyway lets not play the blame game and move on.

Physical appearance is the only fact-based, innate characteristic between "races", isn't it? "Races" which of course never are homogenous and thus a very difficult concept. No-one can deny that Greeks, Germans, Russians and Asians look different (and that many Germans look like a typical Greek etc.), but to imply that these differences have any significance beyond the visual, that is racism. People should be, and are, more sensitive with regard to culture than to physical appearance. Thus I may take offence at you misspelling my name in Cyrillic, i.e. Greco-Russian, letters, on a site devoted to Russian heritage, in a thread about Greek royals :-) It's like saying: All those funny Russian and Greek signs, they are not to be taken seriously. Græcum est; non legitur, LOL.

PS
П as in принцесса / πριγκίπισσα = princess
р as in русский / Russian
е as in Ελισάβετ / Елизавета = Elizabeth
в as in Василий / Βασίλειος = Vasiliy / vasileios / king
е as in Ελισάβετ / Елизавета = Elizabeth
д as in Δημοκρατία / Демократия = republic / democracy
= Preved
:-)

Берёзы севера мне милы,—
Их грустный, опущённый вид,
Как речь безмолвная могилы,
Горячку сердца холодит.

(Афанасий Фет: «Ивы и берёзы», 1843 / 1856)
