Thank you, infact I read this:

Quote
In the younger generations of the family, Louise's favourite relatives were the Duke and Duchess of Kent.[85] At the coronation of King George VI in 1937, Louise lent the Duchess the train that she designed and wore for the Coronation of Edward VII in 1902.

and I made a confusion with the wedding veil, I'm sorry!

Wonderful pictures!

It probably had a public exhibition. The wedding dresses of Queen Mary, Princess Mary and Alexandra Fife all were put on public display. (Those are just the ones I've seen photos of--I don't know how many more might have been or when/why it started.)

I know. They are Queens. Not sure about the dresses of the Duchesses of Kent or Gloucester.

Only Queen Mary was Queen and she wasn't when he wedding dress was exhibited. Neither Princess Mary nor Alexandra Fife were Queens.

Princess Mary was a daughter of a King and Alexandra Fife is also part of the British Royal Family.

Marina & Alice were married into it, and I think Marina sold quite a lot of things to keep her household going. Not sure if her dresses was not that list or not. Most likely her dresses were long gone...

But _you_ said 'they were Queens'. I pointed out that no they weren't.

Other royal wedding dresses that have been displayed at various times include Princess Charlotte's (daughter of George IV), Queen Victoria's, Queen Alexandra's, Elizabeth II's, Princess Margaret's, Princess  Alexandra of Kent's, Katharine's (Duchess of Kent) and Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester's. And, in modern times, Diana and Sarah Ferguson's.

I think Patsy Connaught's may have been but not Maud Fife's. I'm not sure about the Queen Mother, but I believe hers was as well. Perhaps it was more common before the widespread usage of film and television to capture the event?

I read Marina had to sell quite a lot of her things. I wonder if the dress went with it. Don't think her fashionable wardrobe was in tact when she died. Most of the classic 30's to 40's pieces are gone. Unlike Wallis, who kept most of her dresses.

The Crown Princess that was not to be.

But the story does not say if, at the origin of this engagement, Olga aspired to become one day Queen of Denmark. Or so, on the contrary, just like Princess Françoise of Guise who pushed away the same year the King of Yugoslavia, the fact of becoming queen interested not at all Olga and if it was, also, one of the causes of her breach of promise of marriage with Frederik there.

She wasn't interested in Fred and he her. It was more of an arrangement. She thought she was doing her duty.

Well, from her diary entries, it seems it was a romance but more of a 'quick to fall, quick to burn out' kind rather than the type that is truly meant to last. They got caught up in youthful infautation, he proposed, she accepted, it was an eminently acceptable match (and very desirable for her parents) of 2 well-connected, attractive royals. However, out of sight, out of mind--at least for Frederick. Olga wrote of how he was completely incommunicado for weeks. It didn't take long for both of them to fall out of 'love' with each other.

I read that Frederick had drinking problems and his actions was sometimes strange. He raised Wooley's hand to the crowds instead of Olga. To be fair, by the time he was in control of that problem when he eventually married Princess Ingrid of Sweden.
