Palaces,residencies, estates of the Habsburgs

In the gardens of Schoenbrun there used to be a laberinth made of  nicely trimed trees and busches, one of the most difficult laberinths to find the exit. Gardeners had constantly had to be called to rescue someone calling for help. The Austrian Socialist Government od Karl Renner, back in 1920 had this wonderfull laberinth destroyed. Empress Zita loved those laberints and got lost on several ocations. She hated to call for help but eventually she did.

Schoenbrun's gardens suffered a lot of neglect after april 1919.

I've just returned from a 4-day visit to Wien and I can't describe how impressive the city is.
I've seen a lot of big and/or historical European cities but most of them don't even come close to Wien imo.

The city is more than beautiful, the people are extremely friendly, the city was remarkably clean,...
At almost every streetcorner we turned, there was yet another beautiful site, a beautiful palais, a beautiful square, etc. It just never stopped

@britt: The Schönbrunn itself might be prettier than the Hofburg (and the garden, for some reason, I liked more than the one at Versailles, perhaps because it seemed more natural and was a little more sober), but personally I was more impressed by the latter for some reason. The entire part of the city of the Hofburg, the Neues Rathaus and the 2 big museums is just amazing. There are also some great museums harboured in the Hofburg/Neue Burg (Weapons & arms, Imperial treasury, silverware museum, Sisi-museum, etc.).

I think the only city-trip that could top this one would be St-Petersburg (still hoping to get there some time soon ).
I'll surely be going back to Wien soon since we didn't have time to see half the things we wanted to

This castle was private property of the Habsburgs and was confiscated in 1919. Much of the land has been sold to real estate developers who have profited from the land. This was one of the primary residences of Emperor Charles I during WWI. It was here where he saw on several occasions his brother in law Sixtus, brother to Empress Zita. From these meetings derived the so called "Sixtus Affair".

From august till the end of january 2009 there's an exhibition on Rudolf's life,mainly one particular interest of his,hunting.
The exh. is at his former appartments.

Hi There,

I am quit curious, are there ghostst of servants or people from the imperial family in the palaces in schönbrunn, Hofburg, Kaiservilla or the laxenburg or even in the Kaisergruft in the kapuzinerchurch??
Or someone else of the habsburg family anywhere else?

Does anybody have stories about this or articles about it?
Or maybe u saw it yourself?
please share all u got on it..cause its very interesting!

when i was in the kaisergruft i felt a strange atmosphere..so i think there are ghosts.. im so curious..:p

yes me 2..
i ordered a book on an austrian website its called : die habsburger und das übersinnliche, die weiße frau in der hofburg und andere phänomene..
that book is about ghostly stuff around the habsburger..
so i hope it comes in soon..than i maybe can tell more..
but if anybody else knows stories and stuff about this subject.. please post it here!
