I first visited the achilleion in 96 & was last there in july 98. I hope that most of the information I gained then is still relevant.

Local buses do run to gastouri from corfu town though these are few & far between. The best way to get there is definitely by rented vehicle, thus avoiding the dreaded coach party tours. If your budget does not stretch to a car then hire a motorscooter, but do watch the roads as some are like glass in the summertime. The achilleion is accessible from all parts of the island being at a mid-way point. Park on the main road just outside the house, its chaotic but theres usually enough room for all.

The ground floor rooms only were open on my last visit. I thought the building was in good state of repair, the only drawback I could find was there seemed to be a certain lack of exhibits inside. The gardens were excellent & well looked after, and can anyone else lay claim to a better patio area.

On leaving go down the hill heading fo the coast road, this takes you past the Sissi memorial. Then to round off your journey see the strange sight that is kaiser bridge.

The achilleion may not be to everyones taste, some may say its over the top & kitsch, but I think its great. I came away very much smitten, partially with the house, though I seem to recall at the time it was mostly with Empress Sissi.

Mayerling was Rudolph's hunting lodge where the couple's bodies were found, as far as I know. It's in Lower Austria.

Mayerling Lodge is indeed a perfect place for ghost stories.

Yes...but are there people who have written about it or know about people who have seen or heard paranormal stuff in mayerling?
i wanna know the stories..well rather find it out myself..but dont know when im in austria again..
im so curious..they really should send something like most haunted or ghoshunters down there :p

And for sure the kaisergruft in vienna is haunted as well!
when i was there i had strange feelings got sick in some rooms and sometimes felt like i was being touched.. and watched with 100 eyes..followed..temperature changing.. and when i got to the part of sisi, franz, and rudolf..it really made me cry..but in every room i felt something that is like paranormal..that is not on the living side anymore..and the guy at  the entrance desk who sold the ticket was so damn creepy as well...he looked like lurg from the adams family..but then smaller and more long like wet hair that was not quit fresh..and he looked scary..

I have to confess that I'm skeptical about these things, but once I had those same feelings when I was visiting a medieval castle here in Italy...the strange thing is that I have never heard of paranormal stories about that place...it was just my imagination?, who knows?

yes..well i always told myself first witness it myself..by hearing, feeling or seeing.. first see than believe you  know.. but when i was like 8 i wtinessed some spooky stuff..but i thought and it was said it was just my imagination..
but now i have also witnessed unexplainable things so i believe it.. like others tell you your crazy but a friend of mine..didnt believe in this stuff and i was with him also in a miedeval castle here in holland and it was halloween and we went for fun there cause it had bedrooms to rent..so we did that..and we were going through scary shit..now he is a believer in those things..but sometimes when people say some things im like yeah well i gotta witness that myself at that place..

About Laxenburg...it was the birthplace of the unlucky Crown Prince Rudolf (and this is a link with Mayerling), but Rudolf to part, what happened there?...I mean, is that Palace remembered for another tragic event?...

A beautiful photo of Laxenburg: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Blauer_Hof_Laxenburg_3-4.JPG

Also Gisella the second daughter of the imperial couple was born in laxenburg..
And Elisabeth(erzi) the daughter of rudolf was born there..

at the first world war it was badly damaged and i think at that time people might have been passed away there by the tragic war..

if you wanna know more about laxenburg here i have a youtube video of it:

Thank you very much for the beautiful video!, Laxenburg Castle is really amazing, I'd like to go there.
Yes, probably there were victims during the first world war.

Also, are those remains of a pre-existend structure in the park around the castle?...we can see tham at half video...

I was looking through a book i have bought in the hofburg...its a kind of tourbook..

but with 2 rooms i found pictures in it.. that have something rare on it...
1 is explainable..i think...but the other not certainly not...

the court kitchen in 1904...i made a cirkle around...this is the one i cant explain when i look cloesely in my book it looks like a cat face..with point ears...but certainly 2 eyes

Here i see a man..but you can look through him... on none of the pictures are people looking around so..or maybe a lost tourist when they made these fotos..
