Did Nicholas II have a yacht called the "Alexandria"?
« on: February 15, 2014, 09:02:49 PM »
I have searched the forum, and there was a reference to this in 2004, but it never had any replies, and the links it provided don't seem to exist any longer. Specifically, did he meet Poincare in July 1914 aboard a yacht named Alexandria or the Standart?

Thanks for any help!

Spiridovitch, "Les Dernieres Annees..." Vol. 2. Ch. 19 The Year 1914. (my own translation)

On July 6th: Around five o'clock the Standart entered into the waters of the harbor at Cronstadt. The yacht Alexandria already waited there to take the Tsar and his family to Peterhof. (emp. added)

The French squadron with President Poincare on board arrived on July 7. The Emperor went to meet it in Cronstadt. A gala dinner was held in the Great Palace, a dinner also attended by the Empress herself, although during the entire evening she felt fatigued and sick.
At Krassnoie-Selo they offered the President the opportunity to admire the Imperial Russian Army, represented by the elite troops of the guard. They held a parade there in front of the Imperial Tent, and, that evening, a Retreat with great pomp.
Also on July 10 the French squadron left Cronstadt.
