« on: June 06, 2009, 08:15:48 AM »
Hello, Romanov fans!

Share to us yours organization of  Romanov photos you have collected for a while, meaning by name of folders! If you are willing, of course.

I do have -- Romanovs -- NII and Family  - Ipatiev House
                                                        -  Sokolov investigation
                                                        - Art, letters, uniforms
                                                        - Servants
                                                        - Icons, drawings, etc.

-- AIII and rulers before NII
                                -- Felix, Irina, Yussupovs

About rest, Formals, at Livadia, Finland, Stavka, etc. are all mixed. I found myself so surprised how do I find some when needs?  ;-) And do you organize according to places, or to years, or whatever..?

And of course, photos of other Royals are welcome. And my PhotoBucket Romanov album is bit organized than on my computer.

First, I have folders for solo informals of each member of NAOTMAA. Then there are folders labeled Big Pair, Little Pair, N&A, NAOTMAA, and OTMA.

I keep my formal photos in a separate set of folders, organized by date.

After that are folders for special occasions and locations: Arrest & Exile, Ceremonies, Crimea, Nursing, Regimentals, Standart, Stavka, Tennis.

One very large catch-all folder is called "NAOTMAA assorted." It's full of informal photos of the imperial family in various combinations (OMA, NAA, NOTM, etc.). Inside are subfolders that help me narrow down the possibilities when I'm searching for a particular photo: Animals, Balconies, Cars & Carriages, Churches, Military, Picnics, Snow, Water & Boats.

Last of all, I keep separate folders for photos of members of the IF with Ella, Malama & Voronov, Rasputin, and Vyrubova.

According to my filing system, the combination of people takes precedence over the location:
a photo of Anastasia on the Standart goes in the "Anastasia" folder
a photo of the Big Pair on the Standart goes in the "Big Pair" folder
a photo of the Big Pair with Vyrubova goes in the "Vyrubova" folder
a photo of OTA on a picnic with Voronov goes in the "Voronov" folder

When the combination of people doesn't fall into a convenient category like "OTMA" or "Little Pair" I basically do anything I can to keep the image from falling into that enormous "NAOTMAA assorted" folder:
a photo of TMA on the Standart goes in the "Standart" folder
a photo of O&A playing tennis goes in the "Tennis" folder
a photo of OMA in the Crimea goes in the "Crimea" folder
a photo of NOTA kayaking in the Alexander Park goes in the "Water & Boats" subfolder of "NAOTMAA assorted"

Make sense?

(Aside from that, I also have separate folders for images that don't include people: art & letters, clothing, palace floorplans & images, etc.)

As for me, I put my pictures into slideshows.  I have a slideshow for each country's royal family, Romania, Sweden, Hesse, etc.  For the Romanovs, since I have so many pictures, I have a slideshow for each individual of NAOTMAA.  Olga's are split into 2 different slideshows, before and after she put her hair up.  I have a slideshow just for pictures with all of OTMA in it, and a slideshow for Nicky with any of his children.  It's intense.  As far as siblings go, for the most part, whoever is the oldest in the picture gets it in their section, i.e., a photo of Olga and Tatiana would go in Olga's show, since she's the oldest.  However, since my Russia shows are kinda crazy, there are exceptions.  As I said before, if the photo has all 4 of OTMA in it, it goes in it's own separate show (However, if there are only 3 of OTMA, it goes in the oldest girl's show).  If Nicky is in the picture with the children, it goes in Nicky's show, regardless of how many of the children are in the picture with him.  If Alix is with the children, it goes in her show, unless it has all 4 of OTMA in it, then it goes in the OTMA show.

In the cases where there are more than one royal family in the same picure, it usually goes to the family that has the most members in the photo, except in the case where I have difficulty identifying them, in which case it goes in the show of whomever I can identify first.  I know I have a weird system, but it works for me.  :)

I have photos of a bunch of royal families, so I organize mine by country, then in each of those folders I have a folder for each person that has a lot of images by themselves (for example, Olga Nickolaievna may have her own folder, but Anastasia Mikhailovna might not). I place the women in folders based on country of birth, not where they married in to. I title their folder with their name and their title after marriage, so I can identify them quickly.
If I have a lot of photos of a group of people (for example OTMA, or ones of Alix and Dagmar together, etc.) I put those in their own folder.
If I have a lot of photos of a certain family (for example different combinations of OTA, TMA, etc., or the children of King Christian IX) I have a folder for that family.

So an example from mine would be: Denmark -
                                                         - AD (Alexandra and Dagmar together)
                                                         - Alexandra Queen of the United Kingdom
                                                         - Christian IX (pics of his family)
                                                         - Frederick III (family)
                                                         - Ingeborg Princess of Sweden
                                                         - Maria Feodorovna Empress of Russia
                                                         - Thyra Duchess of Cumberland

I have folders organized in this way for: Austria, Belgium, Brazil Spain and Portugal, Bulgaria Serbia and Montenegro, Denmark, a Dump folder for images with families from more than one country, France, Germany (which has Hesse and Prussia as subfolders as well), Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, OTMAA (I keep it separated from my Russian one since it's so big), Romania, Russia, Sweden, and finally, The Netherlands.
I have a lot of images! :P
I hope I explained it clearly. It's prolly confusing or cumbersome or whatever but it works for me. :)

On my computer that has my photos, and I can't access anymore....

I had pictures categorized as:
NAOTMAA
Nicky
Alix
Alix and Nicky
Nicky and daughters
Nicky and Alexei
Alix and daughters
Alix and Alexei
Sisters
Sisters and Alexei
Olga
Tatiana
Maria
Anastasia
Alexei

Then I have other folders for random royal pictures of others, and a folder for little Elisabeth of Hesse.

And each picture was dated if I knew it. :]

I have them divided by who's in the picture. A photo with Anastasia and Nicholas will be put into Anastasia's album, and photos with Tatiana, Marie, and Anastasia will go into TMA's album, and so on.

The problem is that albums get huge. I had to split Aleksey's up into two albums: before and after 1914.

I try to do mine by year, which has gotten incredibly hard, thanks to date discrepancies.  Mine might go like this:

1900 - peterhof lower dacha - tatiana & olga holding bouquets in alix's room

If there's a date discrepancy, I might put "1900 ca" or "1900-1901", something like that.  If there are multiple photos in a session that wouldn't show up together in the folder because of names, I might put the situation/outfits/room/etc. before the names.

Like this:

1916 - mogilev dnieper - knit hats boat olga, alix, nicholas & sablin

This way, the photos that show the same outfits/possibly same day show up together. So when the family were in the same location but on the riverbank, I title it:

1916 - mogilev dnieper - knit hats walk...

It seems really confusing, but now that I've finally worked it out, the only hard part is trying to piece together what/where/when the photos were actually taken.
Well, the Chinese were only using a simple polyphoneticly grouped twenty square digit key, transposed from booster verdonic form, with multiple nulls.
