I figured that was what you meant!

I'm yet to see Rasputin with Alan Rickman actually! I'll have to see if I can. But it always happens, one actor plays a character, another also plays the character, people compare.

Di Caprio is boyish-looking, and quite fair. Rasputin looks very dark in all his photographs, with long hair and a shaggy beard, and looked his age (mid to late 40s at the time of his death).

I have no idea what J Edgar Hoover actually looked like, so it would not be too much of a problem to have Di Caprio play him. But Rasputin is a very recognisable figure, so if I were making a picture about him, I would start with someone who was a reasonable likeness to begin with. Tom Baker was very good in 'Nicholas & Alexandra'.

That might make sense for the sake of accuracy and I also agree Baker did a very nice job in N&A. But DiCaprio brings something to a film that a Baker never could...star power. Think of how many more people will go see this film just because Leo is not only involved but in the title role.

Were this a movie about the Romanovs that naturally happened to feature the character of Rasputin you could probably get away with a spot on look alike without cache. But a film about the Starets requires a 'Star'.

What about the movie Rasputin with Gerard Depardieu. Is it already on sale in USA? Thanks Amelia

Those nose thing will be easy enough and the beard should do a bunch of the rest. However, Leo isn't very tall and wasn't Rasputin a good few inches over 6'?

Edubs31, I agree. Leo is a very popular actor these days!

GDella, Leo is around 5ft11 I think, 1.83m. He's quite tall. And I didn't know Rasputin was that tall! I just looked it up, he's 6ft4 exactly, 1.93m, so there would be 5 inches height difference.

Tom Baker did a great job in N&A in my opinion.

Leo is one extremely good actor. No doubt he will probably do well in this role even under a lot of make up. They will probably get English actors and actresses to play to play most of the other roles NAOTMAA Yussopov ect.

I forgot it looks like they are going to be using updated information on Rasputin possibly Ron Moe's and m Nelpa's books on him. If so it will be interesting.

I looked it up and one site said 6'. I didn't realize he was that tall--he always seemed more about 5'8"-5'9" to me. Put a small lift in and it should work. ;)

I was just going to ask where they were getting the screen play from...

I wonder when filming/production on this movie will go ahead? Considering Leo is taking a small break from acting...maybe two, three years?

Yep, he's very tall. A lift will definitely do it!

I think I read somewhere Rasputin was 5'9. There is a picture of him in either Nelpa or Moe books where he is sitting next to Alexandra who was 5''7"+ where he really didn't look all that taller than she was.

I can remember where I read it. I went on a out of town trip and looked through the book "The Rasputin File" They had the picture of him with Alexandra and the children. They are standing (my mistake the picture in the other book was of a smaller scale) > In this photo Alexandra who is standing next to him looks slightly taller than he does. There is also another picture in the book where he is standing with a group of mostly women and he either the same size or a little taller than the rest. If he was over 6 feet tall he would have towered above them all. The average Russian man or woman back then wasn't all that tall. This needs to be checked out.

Hm, I'll have to look into that. Perhaps he is around that height then? Alexandra was around 5ft7 or around that wasn't she? It would make sense for him to be the height you read if he appears not much taller than her.
