In Russia a new film about Rasputin is being shot at the moment. Director Andrei Malyukov. In the role of Rasputin Vladimir Mashkov, who played Nicholas II in Depardieu's Rasputin film.

Two in one year then. Interesting!

How did I just now learn about this? IMDB still doesn't have anything about it.

Anyway, I think Leonardo DiCaprio could be good in the role. For a long time I didn't like him, but recently he's impressed me in movies like Inception, Shutter Island, and especially Django Unchained. Waiting for something to appear on IMDB.

Yeah I'm pretty surprised not to have seen anything on IMDB either. I'm guessing production of the film has either been pushed back or was never intended to be released until 2015. Otherwise it doesn't make any sense we wouldn't have heard anything more about a film with such a big name actor set to be released in 2014.

I agree the ClockWorkGirl. I'm a Leo convert. The guy never has a subpar performance or never makes a bad film.

Following movie websites, I get the impression that a lot of planned projects are announced for DiCaprio when they're in their early stages. I remember news this year about a David O. Russell movie with Robert DeNiro, an adaptation of a Nordic thriller, and IIRC there was even something about one of the 20th century presidents. If the Rasputin project moves forward, and I hope it does, 2015 seems like the earliest date the film might be released. But it's also possible that it might end up being one of the DiCaprio projects that for whatever reason doesn't get past development.

Some good likenesses there, though Nicholas's beard looks rather false!

The chap playing Yssupov looks rather like Nigel Havers, though it can't be him (way too old now).

Anna Vyrubova, however, needs to be fatter.

I agree with what's been said about the likenesses of the characters (or lack thereof in the case of Vyrubova).

Is it just me or is the actress playing Alexandra here the same one (Ingeborga Dapkunaite) featured in the 2003 film "The Lost Prince".

Yes I see a resemblance between the two, although the actress who plays Xenia bares a similarity to both of them as well!

And yes it looks like the producers went beyond Winterhalter and made Anna Vyrubova a beauty queen. Everyone else seems to be cast pretty well though. I LOVED they casted Xenia cause they could have easily written her out if they wanted to but they didn't. Who did they cast as Maria Feodorovna and Elisabeth (Ella)?

Like I said in the Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich thread I pray it gets a English subtitled DVD release like Romanovy: Ventsenosnaya semya! (Selfishly before Christmas!!)

I agree with the casting. The medal the actor playing Nicholas is wearing is the Order of St George 4th class. In real life Nicholas received this award on 27 October 1915. Alexei received it on 17 October 1915. I would also like to see it one day and the Movie with Leo if it ever gets made. One does wonder how the Russian cast and crew will get around the Russian law against Homosexual propaganda. After all Felix was a bisexual cross dresser.
