I have read it, but it was a while ago, and I can't really comment on how reliable it is for your purposes; however, here are some reviews, so you can decide:

May Advise to a Granddaughter - letters exchanged by Queen Victoria and her Hessian namesake - princess Victoria? The Queen expresses her opinion on Russia Russians, the Romanovs and prospective marriages of Ella and Alexandra.

Julia Gelardi (I`m not sure about the English title because i read it in Poish: : "The Romanov Women: From Glory (?) to Revolution".

May be you should try interlibrary loan? Here in Poland I get books from Polish libraries for free and pay 10 euros for a book from any European country.... My university ibrary offers such a service, most university libraries do

Advice to my Granddaughter is wonderful.  It's a compilation of letters from Queen Victoria to Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine.  Richard Hough did this after he wrote the biography of the "first Mountbattens" Louis and Victoria.  Sadly, you don't have Princess Victoria's letter's back, but you can certainly get what's going on and what she's writing her grandmother about... The relationship shines through every letter... highly recommended.
So long and thanks for all the fish

Thank you! I have oredred it.

By the way it has been over two weeks since I ordered the Four Graces from Eurohistory and it didn´t come so far. I realize it will take some more time with the shipping to my country, but is there a way to check if they actually have sent the book already?

I don't know if you will be able to get it, but Victoria's Daughters by Jerrold M. Packard is really good. There is a lot of information about Alice and her relationship with her mother. I also got ahold of a book a while ago that I think was called "The Mountbattens." I don't remember the author (it was from a university library) but it had a lot on Victoria of Milford Haven and the relationship between the Hessians and Russians.

Email eurohistory and ask them when and how they shipped the book.
When I send things to Czech rep it does not take 4 weeks .

Eurohistory is taking forever. They told me they would disaptch the book, but that was two weeks ago..... And to top it all my ordered "Letters to Victoria of Hesse" never came - they send me a completely wrong book. So now I am stuck with a brochure about Pennsylvania and the seller won´t reply to my mail.... my damn luck. Sigh.

Ally, did you learn anything interesting about Pennsylvania? I could be of some assistance with that :-)

I refused to open that book. I was so mad I would probably tear it in half :-P And I still have hope they may give me money back if I send it back.

I hate buying stuff over internet, no matter how "comfortable" it is.

Thank you Helen. At this point it seems everything may be solved out more easily than it seemed at first.... At least I hope so because my due date for the thesis is end of April and I have not even started yet.....

Good luck Ally, I hope you do resolve this soon!

The Four Graces are here!

I want to thank our member Eurohistory for making sure I received the book and being so co-operative when I was at the brink of anxiety breakdown (as is my good custom) :)

---

Am still hoping for someone to recommend some good book on Victorian morals. As in what traits were considered "Victorian", what kind of life was "Victorian" and such.... I have my notion of such things from various resources, but nothing solid.
