All is well now, I have found my "victim", to whom I am truly grateful!

But thank you both very much for commenting and your offer to help! Best regards!

Phew! My thesis is finally finished, corrected, PDF-ed and ready to be handed in!

Thank you all who answered my calls for help, thank you for recommendations, correction and invaluable input. I wouldn´t have been able to make it without you.

My teacher evaluated the work extremely well, stating she will give me an A.

Thank you! The only downside is that even after many corrections, when I finally had it bound and handed it in, I flipped through a copy I kept and immediatelly found like twenty mistakes :-P I guess one can never really "catch them all".

In any case the work on this thesis taught me a lot about writing and the importance of footnotes and quoting sources. I have been playing with an idea of writing a book on the ROmanovs in Czech, since there is pretty much nothing of the kind in my language, and I gained a valuable lesson from this experience I am sure I will utilize.

I am yet to present the thesis at my final exam (end of this month), but yes, I do have the grade (A as promised) and extremely favourable assessement from my teacher. In fact, I am nominated for a "dean´s award". Let´s see if I win ;-)

Thank you both!

I was quite limited by both demands of the teacher and also ammount of pages allowed. Standard number of pages for bachelor thesis here is 30 pages, which I couldn´t fit into at all (ended having over 40 and I still had to leave out many things I had originally intended to include). I think I might share it if forum members are interested, but I need to warn you - it is not great piece of work, just a normal bachelor thesis of a person who digs all the info out of books of others. I just tried to point out the direct and indirect influence of Queen Victoria and Victorianism on Alexandra´s character and her actions which had a certain share in bringing the dynasty down - or at least in stripping the Imprial family of popularity with the people and society.

OK guys ;-)

I don´t think I should put the thesis on the web just like that, so in case you´d be interested, just send me your e-mail via PM, and I will mail it to you.

*BUMP* the thread is back! :-)

I am currently doing my Masters and have been assigned a new topic, for a new thesis, this time longer and more "serious". And as such I am trying to gather as many sources as I can for the topic, so I thought I would ask the AP members, who have all been so wonderful and helpful the last time.

The topic of the thesis is THE TUTORS AND CAREGIVERS OF THE LAST IMPERIAL FAMILY OF RUSSIA.

I aim to write about who they were, how they were hired, what was their position within the family and how were their relationships to its members, and also of what happened to them later and how their post affected the rest of their lives. I am also going to try and compare the education of Nicholas and his children with the education given to their contemporaries, and possibly how it differs from today.

So far I have come up with these book that I will be working with (these are just a few that I could think of from the top of my head):

From Cradle to Crown
6 Year at the Russian Court
13 years at the Russian Court
The Romanovs and Mr. Gibbes
The Forgotten Tutor - John Epps and the Romanovs
The False Anastasia
The House of Special Purpose
The Life and Tragedy of Alexandra Feodorovna
Alexei (by Margarita Nelipa)

Please, could you recommend more books that could help me with the topic? Anything you can think of regarding even small mentions of imperial educational system, the tutors (not just of OTMAA but the generation of Nicholas and his siblings), their lives etc?

Good luck with your new topic!

Thank you!

I would like to add I am looking for ANY books on royal education in the past, not just Russian! One of the tasks I am going to undertake is to draw comparisons of the education that was given to Imperial children to that of other royals. I am quite positive I have seen a book about royal tutors before, but cannot remember the title for the life of me!

This might help...

"Extract from a memorandum written in his own hand, Prince Albert describes his ‘positive plan’ for the future management of the children’s education."
