Hello all,
I keep stumbling across references to tsesarevich Aleksei being named after Nicholas II's favorite tsar, Aleksei I. I know that Nicholas II dressed up as Aleksei I at the 1903 ball, and I do not doubt the truth to the claim that he named his son in his honor. However, I cannot find a primary source in any academic work that I have read showing that Nicholas definitely named his son after this tsar. I have also combed Nicholas's diary and have not found anything. Do any of you good people know of another primary source, such as a letter or a conversation/memoir by a relative which would give actual basis for this fact? I need a primary source!
(Forgive me if there is already a thread like this posted somewhere - I tried to search for it and did not find it- if so, could someone just link it?).
