Natalia Sheremetev b 1840(?) d 1920
« on: July 22, 2013, 09:34:06 AM »
Dear All,
I wonder if anyone can help me trace my great, great, grandmother's family link to the Counts Sheremetev. She was Natalia Sheremetev and my grandmother lived with her when she was orphaned.
My grandmother was only able to tell me very little before she would start crying for the loss of her home and family, and so I didn't press her. I have tried for many years to trace the family but without success.

My information is as follows:
Natalia was the daughter of Alexsei and Nina (Harabenko ?). Her siblings were
Maria, Nadjesda, Olena, Wasyl, Ivan, Pavlo and Nicholai.

Natalia married Ivan Volodomir Timofiejew in Gelmyazov, Poltava, Ukraine in 1862. (Gregory Timofiejew, the Polish born writer and poet was their grandson)

I understand her father, Alexei's siblings were Pavlo and Ivan.

We have a ring in the family, with the Sheremetev crest on it but little else other than a photograph of Natalia with all her grandchildren.

My apologies if I should have posted this under the Counts Sheremetev entry.

I don't think Natalia was from the Counts, the untitled clan of the Sheremerevs was far more larger. Also there is no any Natalia in the Counts genealogy in 19 century.
I'll try to find something.

The only one Natalia Sheremeteva who could possibly match is Natalia Afanasievna Sheremeteva (1834-1905), nee Stolypina, spouse of Vasilii Alekseevitch Sheremetev (1834-1884). She was childless but a famous charity leader in Moscow, famous for her help to poor people. There is an article on her in Russian wikipedia:

http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A8%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%BC%D0%B5%D1%82%D0%B5%D0%B2%D0%B0,_%D0%9D%D0%B0%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BB%D1%8C%D1%8F_%D0%90%D1%84%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%8C%D0%B5%D0%B2%D0%BD%D0%B0

Also I can say that name "Natalia" was quite unpopular in the Sheremetev's clan - due to the ill-fate Countess Natalia (1714-68). I mean those women who were BORN Sheremetevs. At the same time there were a few Natalias who married INTO the Sheremetevs family.

That's all now what I can help.

Dear Svetabel
I don't think that this can be her but I am very grateful for your time and efforts on my behalf.
Thank you too for sharing your knowledge.

Have you asked at the Russian Nobility Association in NYC.  Each year they have(had?) a ball at the then-hotel, The Plaza. (Once they moved to the Waldorf but returned.  Where now?)   I attended several times and there is a wonderful photo of me with one of the Sons of the Revolution, Col. Issacson.  Another time I invited a dear friend and he was such a great dance partner that all the Russian ladies with their tiaras were cutting in!   There was then still alive the aged Pr Sheremetev or Schuvalov who was the honoree, as it were.
