Last known photos of the Yussupovs
« on: January 17, 2005, 01:24:29 PM »
I was trying to find the last known pictures of Felix, Irina, Princess Zinaida, her husband Felix, and babe Irina but I couldn't.

I think I once saw a picture of Irina and Felix in old age, but it looked nothing like them.

Can anyone help?

I remember seing one from the late 1960's or early 70's, and, indeed, they did look nothing like them..As soon as I get home , I will search for it..

I do have a picture of Irina one year before her death. She looks every bit like her old self. She is actually a very cute old woman. The same book contains several pictures of Felix, the last one showing him around 70. He has little hair left, but looks decent for his age. Although he doesn't look like the handsome Felix anymore. Before anyone starts asking, I have no way of scanning or putting these photos online. Sorry!

I think the last pic I saw of Zenaida she was holding a doggie, sometime in the 1920's. There is also the nice one of her and little Bebe.

Yes, there is a pic of Felix dead in bed  :( I saw it on the Felix Yussoupov homepage which is now down. I didn't save it, it was just too creepy. But his eyes were still open, and he had the same look in them he always had all his life, as a child, as a young man. I thought that was touching.

Greg King's book "The Man Who Killed Rasputin" contains several pictures of elderly Irina and Felix. The years were not kind to either of them considering the beauty they both once had :(

Someone actually took a picture when Felix just died? That's so morbid!

That's actually very normal in Russia. We still have pictures of my grandfather dead at his funeral. It was a commonplace thing to do in the nineteenth century Europe, especially of children.
Sarah Bernhard made a name for herself posing as dead in cassckets and the pictures sold like hot cakes. I saw one of them in a book about her.

But judging by the fact that his eyes were still open, this was not a funeral shot, it sounds like someone ran right over with a camera the minute he died and snapped a picture! Besides, this wasn't 19th century, this was the late 60's!   :P

And another thing: WHY would anyone want to buy a photo of a random dead woman??  ???  Did people think she was dead in those photos, or did they know she was just posing? Either way, this is really sick!

Sorry for going off tangent...

Why would she keep the same hair style as old woman???

That is so strange. Maybe the stories of Felix and Irina trying to look as they once had is true.

Helen, thanks for posting those photos. Do you have any of Zeneide by any chance?

You're welcome. I haven't come across one of Zenaide in old age, I actually would like to see it too. Maybe someone else has one?
