Oh my goodness! I would have loved to have seen Waldemar's face!

Kmerov, do you know any funny stories about Marie's sons? I know they used to do things like have "backwards car races." (Where you put your car in reverse, get out, and the one who gets hit by a car first, loses)

I havnt read any fun stories about them yet. But as a group the children were known in the family as "the naughties from The Yellow Mansion". One christmas, Prince Erik climped up the christmas tree and it fell to the floor. Waldemar wanted him to go to bed, but Frederik VIII let him stay up.
In Margrethe words. " We loved Frederik VIII. He was so nice to us, and always took our side, but we were scared to death of Queen Lovisa".

When I was working on the KING MICHAEL I OF ROMANIA book, Queen Anne shared many stories about her mother and some that had been passed to her concernign her grandmother Marie d'Orléans...Princess Margrethe's sense of humor was famous among the family.  I saw in the Queen's private albums some funny-faced photos taken of her mother's.

Princess Margrethe was a very speciel and strong woman.
I also find it fascinating that she, the youngest of the grandchildren would live until 1992, a 100 years after the deaths of her cousins, Alexandra of Greece and Eddie of Wales, the first grown grandchildren to die. Quit a spand in time the cousins had..

Quote
What a great sense of humor Marie had, and it was nice that she passed it onto Margrethe. --On the Royal Family program, Queen Anne of Romania remembered how her mother (Margrethe) had been working in a hat shop in NYC. Crown Princess Martha of Norway came in, and sat her hat down on a chair while she went to try on others. Up comes a lady, picks up Martha's hat and tries it on. "How much is this?" she asks Margrethe. So Margrethe made up a price, and off the hat went on the lady's head! Of course Martha comes back, looking for the hat, and Margrethe smiles and says "Sorry, but I got an awful good deal for that hat!"

It's so funny--I just came across the following article and would've had NO idea who it referred to if this hadn't been posted. Strange timing.

Mihai May Marry Danish Princess
Washington Post Dec 3, 1947
Copenhagen, Denmark, Dec. 2 (AP). -- A beautiful blonde Danish princess who worked briefly as a sales girl in a fashionable Fifth Ave. departmant store in New York City will wed dashing King Mihai of Romania, an informant close to the Danish royal family said today.

Of course the story got it wrong but interesting nonetheless.  :)

Well Princess Anne de Burbon de Parme, also worked in New York City and was the daughter of another Princess who worked there too...they were on to something these journalists.

I try to prepare an article on Prince Waldemar but I need some feedback from his kin. Do you know if any of his living heirs are interested in family history?
