To answer the query: I'm not sure! (Sorry, I know that's not a very satisfactory answer but it's honest at least!) In one picture there WAS a very definite gap, but that was when he was small and it looked more like an actual missing tooth to me--and that's a stage everyone goes through, from baby teeth to adult teeth! I'll have to look more carefully at photos of the rest of the family (once they all had their adult teeth lol). I've heard that Nicholas had very bad teeth, due apparently to neglect and a loathing of the dentist ("No! I'm the tsar and I won't go to the dentist if I don't want to!!") but I've only heard about the rest of the family that Alexandra had extraordinarily fine dental work done (in Germany?!) and that the daughters had lots of cavities due to their love of sweets. BUT surely the Imperial dentist would have done all the necessary fillings and such--I'm sure he gave them all (except possibly Nicholas!) regular check-ups and took care of anything that needed looking after.  (And for some reason Alexandra apparently had most of her more intricate dental work done in her homeland of Germany--I believe I read somewhere that Germany at that time had the most advanced dentistry in Europe?!). Oh, and about the heading of this thread--my hat is off to anyone whose second language is English who is able to post anything at all!!! English is my native language but I still occasionally misspell words (as does every English-speaker I know) and I know sometimes I make mistakes in grammar too. Even though I made straight A's in English all the way through school!! So I personally do not criticize mistakes in English made by people whose native language is not English--it's difficult enough for us native-speakers to avoid mistakes!!! If someone wants to ASK me the proper spelling of an English word, or asks me about the correct grammar, of course I am happy to help--otherwise I admire their usually deft handling of a language that I imagine is quite difficult to learn!! ;D

Is your quote of Nicky in parantheses real? Or just for comic reasons?
If it was for comic reasons, then you are really funny, Stacey!!lol ;D

I do believe that Aleksei's teeth had a gap either on the top row or bottom row, heres a link to a thread of him smiling:
http://hydrogen.pallasweb.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=alexei;action=display;num=1123191758

And in a pic of him with his father in a rowboat, you can see that when he had baby teeth, he DID in fact have a gap in between his 2 front teeth in the upper row.
Like Stacey said (I agreed wholly with every single thing that she wrote), it could be that that was only his baby teeth.
I know this, because I wear braces, but I had PERFECT baby teeth, though, in Aleksei's case it is vice versa.  ;)
Though, in a photo of him standing in front of one of his relatives, smiling, the one that Stacey was describing, he is older and STILL has a gap in the same area of his teeth as I mentioned before.
To look at this, genetically, it would seem very likely that all OTMAA, including Aleksei, had bad teeth. Nicky, obviously had bad teeth, I do not know if they were like that naturally, or because of his habits of smoking and not frequenting the Dentist's office enough.
Though, since Alix DID have much work on her teeth, a known fact as they found evidence of this in the grave where the Romanov bodies lay, OTMAA may have inherited her poor teeth.
To further back my thoughts, there is a photo of Aleksei at Stavka, with all his front mature teeth in place, where, though it is dark, if you brighten it, or look closely, you can see a gap between his two front teeth.
Two of the photos that I mentioned were posted by Abby, so the other, you can find for yourself in the link that I provided, hopefully! EDIT: It is the first pic in the the thread that I provided, it is posted by Baby_Tsarevich.

YES we all love him, I know I do, and I don't care at all if he has any kind of problems!

Anyways, about the gap discussion, I'm pretty sure he had a gap, like Stacey and Sofi said in most of his picture you can almost clearly see this gap, and I don't know if you guys noticed, but the girls too seem to have a gap, I know that Olga and most likely Marie had one too!

Here's one of Olga (you can kind of see her gap)
http://www.livadia.org/olishka/images/olgarita.jpg
but there is another picture of her, where you can also see the gap, I can't find that picture at the moment (I'm really sorry if my english at the moment is really bad, I'm been talking in Russian for the past 5 hours and it's hard to make the transition back to English)

wait, here's another one of Olga:

and here we have one of Marie:

Yes, I think he did have a gap in his teeth. As for bad teeth, we have to remember they did not have as good dental care as we do now.  ;)

Has any of the children ever mention the dentist in their diaries or anywhere?

Hi.
Alexei had a charming gap between his two front teeth, but not bad teeth in general. Besides The IF. had an American dentist attached to the court? ;D

Well, I think that Alexanda had her dental work done in England or Germany, one of the two.
I tihnk that it was England, because I think she would have been too small to have dental work done when she was living in Germany, unless she REALLY needed it.

Another Definite Gap
Sorry, it's not that bright, but I can tell Aleksei's gap here.

Yes, I don't  think all of the imperial family had bad teeth, although Nicholas II did.

He did have a gap. Even until he died. The Bolsheviks destroyed alot of the IF's photos, but Alexei rarely smiled or opened his mouth in them because of low self-esteem into his teeth. I read his teeth weren't all that white because of the coffee and tea. But this is only strange to us now because we live in a time where beauty is everything and great teeth is part of it too. I would of loved to have seen more pictures of him smiling. He would be the little charmer if he had smiled more often. Like Pattie Boyd, it's a trademark. Also Alexei wasn't allowed to the Dentist being a Hemophiliac with weak gums and all.

You've already been corrected regarding this information on another thread. And he did see the dentist -- he notes it in his diary on 7 February 1916.
