"...from her last-minute escape and secret exile in England - for which there exists actual historical and documentary evidence."

Makes you wonder.

It rather amazes me that we can continue, as a group, to stumble upon these "novels". Being the largest Romanov community in the world wouldn't you think any author with half a clue would at the very least come on here to promote their book? Even if they were otherwise not an active member? Heck even Lucy Caxton Brown had the brains and the courage to do that much!

I'd like to know more about this author and his intent with this book. The AP would be the perfect forum to introduce himself, with the added upside of there being lots of potential customers and tons of word of mouth to be had.

That he hasn't done these things makes me think this is indeed a story that promotes erroneous survival claims. And that as someone probably familiar with the AP they worried about getting the premise of their novel torn to shreds.

You could be right. I am reading it just now. Haven't got to the survivor part yet, but kissing on lips, Alexei christened as Alexander and Olga being caned by her tacher....oh well, it could be far worse. There is always The Tsarina's Daughter for example...

Well, it pretty much has to be, because it sure as Hell ain't history--see reply  no.2 below.  I suspect the jury may not be out  very long on whether it's good fiction.

Aloha all!

Well, at .99 for a Kindle copy, I decided to shell it out...even I can afford that!

I haven't started it yet, but it looks like a...."quick read" at first glance.

It would have to go a far way to be as bad as "The Tsarina's Daughter" by Carrolly Erickson.....that was so bad I put it down after just a couple chapters!  And I paid for the hard back copy!  THAT made me mad!  LOL

Weirdly the author of this book messaged me though my FB book page yesterday to tell me how happy he is about my book coming out, and that finally someone is giving voice to the voiceless... That was very nice, but a little odd I thought....

The best thing about such books is one can read them
and say " Lord,  even I can do better than this!

It's very empowering lol

and you know the real history is always so much better
and more dramatic than what these authors  imagine ...even when they
seem to feel free to say whatever they want ...the actual history is better

Well, in this case I guess it's not as good as some people feel it could be if there is a survivor! I mean, I could even live with the other nonsense like Olga getting caned, but the survivor part is what really gets to me... How much longer will this be exploited? It seems forever, no matter what happens...

I wouldn't hold your breath on it ending any time soon. If they can turn Abe Lincoln into a vampire slayer they sure as heck can make survivors out of OTMAA.

Naturally I agree with BlessOTMAs comment above. The truth in this particular story is fascinating enough on its own. Rasputin alone is the kind of character that makes the storyline almost seem unbelievable. A complex villain that normally only turns up in tales of fiction.

I'm curious about this author though. Hopefully the book is well written and perhaps he means well. As the saying goes, sometimes artists use lies to tell the truth.

I saw today in a new review it was stated  the book has TN and Olga in an incestuous relationship...were the reviewer being sarcastic when they wrote that ? Lord I hope so , but I'm afraid not  It seems the sole moduis operandi of modern  books and films is pushing the sex envelope ... that one is not going to get  published  or  noticed without that ...it's a shame ..oh and the funny part is these books go on about how they are "honoring" the subject! lol/sob.

I read part of the book. It really is terrible.  I am reminded of a recent entry in Apartment Therapy "Kate's House of Romanov".  As I wait for the article to materialize, visions of Romanov memorabilia, and stuff like that roll by my mind.  After all The Alexander Palace is mentioned in the run up to the article.  When what do my hoping eyes first see, but a picture of Lenin!  I'll give you that there were pictures of the imperial family as Passion Bearers. That was about it though. A hallway of soviet posters.
"Homage to the Romanovs and Soviet propaganda meets plush furniture" was what she called her style. It was neither.
There are some folks who have a very stilted idea of history.  They hear a story and run with it.   Oh, the list of comments were the interesting part.  They nailed her on the mix of Lenin and the Romanovs, including one person whose family was radically altered because of Lenin.
I also agree: real history is much much more interesting.
All the best, Kitt

If there is not some made up,   jolting  sensation , it seems books will not get published...this uptick in historical fiction is heavy on the fiction and light on the historical. All to to make a porn  dollar imo...  I mention SP simply as an example of the latest hot trends  being applied to historical figures ...in a few years time it will be something else
