There are some extemely nice photos of Helen of Greece/Romania in the book I co-authored to commemorate King Michael's 80th birthday.

I have some nice photos of her in the Eurohistory archive from birth to her old age and have also visited her grave several times.

Yes--that's another book on my want list! Arturo, have you ever met King Michael?

Dear Alicky,

Yes of course I have, on many, many occasions.   King Michael, Queen Anne, Princess Margarita and her husband were here in San Francisco in October 2000 at the time we had the ERHJ Royalty Conference.  Princess margarita gave a speech at the conference and we had sevral events with them around the Bay Area.

I have also visited their old home in Versoix several times and have spent time with them in Brussels, Paris and London as well as Washington DC.  His Majesty is a wonderfully caring, sweet man...an inspiration really for all tos eof us honored enough to have met him.

She is buried in Lausanne, next to her beloved cousin Princess Paul of Yugoslavia (née Princess Olga of Greece and Denmark) and Olga's husband, Prince Regent Paul, and their son Prince Nicholas, who died tragically at too early an age.

Arturo:   Which cemetery in Lausanne is Pss. Helen buried?
Do you have any pictures of Her grave and Pr Paul and Pss. Olga you could share with us. Thanks. :)

Thank you Arturo for the information.  Was this also the Cemetery where Queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain rested until her remains were translated to El Escorial?

I believe it might have been the same where she was before the transfer to El Escorial.

I read somewhere that Helen was pregnant when she married Carol.  From what I have read about Helen 's(Sitta) personality and sheltered upbringing I found this hard to believe.

Does anyone have any information on this subject or information on why she married Carol in the first place?

I have nver been able to get feel on Carol II's personality, appeal to women or appeal in general.

Arthur Gould Lee, in his biography of Helen, refers a little bit to why - but the book was written in the 50s, and no one was going to come out and say that Michael was not premature.

Paul Quinlan's biography of Carol II - the Playboy King (inspite of the title, the book is rather scholarly) goes into more detail - he had access to Carol's secretary's diaries.  Marie wanted this match - and actually Carol's position as an eligible prince was rather low considering his escapades - Helen's family was in exile, and she was grieving the death of her beloved brother, Alexander.  Her mother who did not like Marie and did not trust Carol, tried to caution her, but Helen did not listen.  Some years later, she said she wished she had listened -as this would have saved her years of heartache and pain.

Quinlan refers to Helen being pregnant (3.5 months in May and they were married on March 10th).  Michael weighed 7lbs. That's a rather large preemie  :)

I believe that it is generaly accepted in ciurcles close to the Romanian royal family that the conception of His Majesty took place before the wedding of his parents and even perhaps in rather lesser romantic circumstances.

OK everyone.  I also posted this on the Hohenzollern(?) topic board.  I saw the following picture of Moretta, and I thought immediatly of how much she resembled her niece, Princess Helen, Queen Mother of Romania.  Anyone agree? Maybe someone can post pics of both and we can determine.

Here's the site I found: http://www.geocities.com/jesusib/Moretta.html

Regards!
