Poor Helen ! How could it be accused of failing to keep Carol while the union was in any case doomed to failure from the outset !

Their marriage was, let us not forget, above all, a marriage of convenience and we can say that Helen was sacrificed in this story without being asked her opinion.

It was primarily for King Ferdiannd and Queen Marie of Romania to get their son into the fold. But Carol was an unstable apparently quickly tired of his conquests. Thus, he did nothing to keep Zizi Lambrino he had married without his parents are aware and that he even had a child. This was his first abandoned home. Why then would it not again later? What he did actually abandoning helen and Michel.

If he was may be charmed by Helen very early in their marriage, he tired quickly, preferring to attend women less conventional than Magda Lupescu who manages to retain him the dominant mainly through the senses. Helen was too convenient for him. Because, rebellious and unruly, he needed to find a woman in the pretext of defying taboos and upset the established order.

Maybe if Carol had not met Magda Lupescu, he remained married to Helen, while leading a double life, but save face before the world as it was then for many royal couples at the time. But they would not have been happy together.

FYI - Lupescu's first name was Elena, not Magda.

At first she blame Helen for not keeping Carol, but later the two women bonded.

I know but I look at some periodicals it did put Magda as her name. Maybe it would be too confusing to have two Princesses Elena of Romania.

Whatever happened to old Lupescu?  Was she reburied in Romania with Carol II.

I never understood what Carol II saw in her and how she managed to control him.

It is my understanding that Missy never received her.

Well, she inherited his fortune - and in 2003, Lupescu and Carol's remains were brought back to Romania for reburial at the Curtea de Arges - but he's in royal chapel and she's in the cemetery.

Well, she inherited his fortune -

Did Carol II have as much money as everyone thought he had?

At first she blame Helen for not keeping Carol, but later the two women bonded.

Guy Gauthier in his  " Missy Queen of Romania", on the contrary claims that Marie has always been a perfect propriety towards her daughter-in-law and that " contrary to what has often been alleged by his enemies, has consistently and faithfully supported her in daughter-in-law with whom, however, she had so far as quite distant relations. Everything that was said about the insurmountable antipathy to Marie for Helen is the gossip and the affabulation ".

He explained that even deep admiration for the extraordinary dignity helen demonstrated in the terrible position where her husband had placed the trial of the queen against her is particularly laudatory wordings : "Helen is full of dignity. She is above all by a wonderful woman inside. She keeps everything - including her son - in perfect order. "
