Apocalypse World War I
« on: July 28, 2014, 10:11:44 PM »
I stumbled upon a new mini-series that premiered tonight on the 'American Heroes Channel'. If anyone has that network as part of their digital cable package (I have Verizon and didn't realize I had it until tonight) I strongly recommend tuning in to Apocalypse: World War I. Not certain how many hour-long episodes there will be, but tomorrow night's installment is titled "Chaos in the Skies".

The narration seems solid and historically accurate, but the real treat is the footage. Largely colorized it captures some amazing clips from all sides of the conflict. There is some footage of Nicholas II and Alexandra (and even a glimpse or two of OTMA) that I've never seen before, and certainly not colorized. No actor recreations like the History Channel's solid but unexceptional "World Wars" mini-series from a couple of months ago...this appears to be all original footage!

Sounds good.  Hope it turns up here on some Canadian Channel.   Probably not History, that would mean they'd have to pre-empt Ancient Aliens and Pawn Stars  :P

lol, I thought you liked aliens Tim! I know you're a pretty big sci-fi guy...of course there's already a channel for that :-)

Pawn Stars I actually enjoy. But of course calling it a "history" program is only acceptable using the broadest definition of history possible.

You might not have much luck seeing the program in Canada as a regularly scheduled broadcast but I'd like to think ti would turn up online or through Netflix before long. The video images are colorized but done very well. And some of the clips of the imperial families are brand new to me.

I am, but they have no place on a channel that supposed to be devoted to History.

It would be like me making threads about Star Trek and Doctor Who in this forum, a place they clearly do not belong.  I feel the same was about the History Channel.

Depends on how well you can pull it off Tim. Maybe if your topic thread titles read something like this...

The Wrath of Lenin
The Search For Anastasia
The Voyage to Ekaterinburg
The Undiscovered Empire
Romanov Generations
Last Contact
Resurrection
Nemesis: Bolsheviks
