Olga's official suitors, marriage prospects, and proposals
« on: January 20, 2005, 12:52:46 PM »
I have heard many rumors regarding a possible match between Olga and Dmitry, yet I'm not sure how true this really is.

If a match was planned for the two, why did nothing come of it? Olga would have been old enough for marriage before WWI.

What were thier feelings for each other? I had read that at point Olga did have a crush on Dmitry, but again I'm not sure how much is fact and how much is fiction.

Does anyone know?

The concept seems to have been more of a "rumor around town" than founded in much reality. At one point Alexandra and Nicholas apparently did think of Dmitri as a possible son-in-law, but as he began to take up with Felix Yussopov and other elements of "fast" society, that concept was abandoned. As for Olga herself, I haven't yet read of anything, aside from items that begin with disclaimers such as "it was said" (my own italics), to indicate Olga had any strong romantic feelings for Dmitri, nor he for her.

He was her cousin, the son of Nicholas's uncle Pavel. He was the one involved in Rasputin's murder along with Felix Yussupov.

From what I gathered, Olga had a crush on Dimitri, but maybe he was not into her like she was in him?  Who knows, I am just speculating.

I think at one point all the girls had a crush on him.  It wouldn't have happened--Olga had too much of a serious personality for Dmitri.

Dmitri Pavlovich was not a love interest of Olga.  Granted the girls all had crushes on him at one point but he was certainly not a love interest.

Well, what i mean is some of the girls had crushes of some sort on him, hence the "if you will".

Dmitry was seeing a lot of natasha , the mistress of
grand duke michael (who michael  did marry later on ) , I cant say weather they were having an affair, but on  dimity's part he was in love with her, I think she was only playing with him to make michael jealous

I was thinking as I looked over my formal shots of Olga and Tatiana a few days ago and wondered whether or not the Russian people as well as the socialites thought that Olga and Tatiana were past the good marrying age and they were considered Old Maids? (Or spinsters?)
Yes, O & T were still the children of the Tsar, but girls were considered useless until marriage and only if they married politically.
What do you all think?
???

Not at all. Olga and Tatiana were in their early twenties when they were executed. Olga was 20 at the start of WWI, and Tatiana 18. After that, their chances for marriage were pretty much destroyed due to events in the world like the Revolution. It wasn't their fault.  Nicholas and Alexandra approached the issue of marriage for Olga as early as 1914 to Prince Carol of Romania. Olga was 19. Not very old if you ask me. I think the "old maid" age was around 25 or so.

I thought 20 or over was considered the "old maid" stage. But i think you are right. And they would have been married off sooner if the parents didn't want them to make love matches. But that's a good thing and a bad thing. Getting maried could have saved them from the execution. (Not if one of them married Prince Carol of Rumania though :o)
