It is a blessing (although Olga would have been out of the country at the time of the revolution) that Olga didn't take Prince Carol.  Having read biographies of the Roumanian royal family and seeing Carol's thoroughly bad behavior to his mother and to his wives, I think Olga would have been miserable.

Of course, she would have had Missy for a mother in law, so maybe things wouldn't have been as bad for Olga as they were for Missy when she first arrived in Roumania as a young bride.

hi
i have just joined the forum but have been doing a lot of research on the romanovs. i remember reading somewhere that olga had at one point of time decided not to marry because she knew that alexi had got heamoplhilia from his mother and so she to pass by any chance to her own children although it did sometimes skip generations
could this be true

Where did you read that about Olga? I do find it hard to believe; I do think that Olga would have wanted to get married and have children of her own, even though she may have truly known that she was a carrier..

I also haven't read many pleasant things about Carol. It's a good thing Olga didn't accept him, nor did she like him. It would have been an unhappy marriage.

Actually it was Queen Maria of Romania who didn´t like the idea of Olga being mother of her grand children, knowing they could be hemophiliacs, but she "considered unpolite to refuse".

GD Ally - where did you read that?

I don't have a bio on Marie by herself, but have read much about her in books that have to cover the intertwined royal families in order to make sense.

I suppose that is a chance that many royal houses would not want to take.  I am a bit surprised that Nicholas and his parents didn't look long and hard at Alix being a possible carrier.

But then, QV wanted Alix for Prince Eddy and QV knew about the hemophilia as she had passed it to her son and through her daughters on to her grandchildren.

It is probably not nice to say this, but too bad Vicky wasn't a carrier instead of Alice.  I wonder what the world would have been like if Kaiser Wilhelm as been afflicted?

I have read in on Olga´s wikipedia page, but I don´t know who wrote the article there so I have no idea if he/she had the right information.

I think it so hard to discuss abouit treat like this one. I wonder how many other Royal Houses knew about Aleksei's hemophilia, and possible carrier of illness at Grand Duchesses....

I feel so sorry for Olga's fate. Also, Mr. Gilliard mentioned about same thing- what would be happen with her if she went to Romania in 1914....

geet862003 makes a great point!  I never even thought about Olga not wanting to marry because she thought she might be a carrier, but it makes perfect sense.  If she married someone who wasn't going to inherit a throne, it wouldn't be so bad, but how could she not think long and hard about her parent's struggle with Alexei's illness?  Not to mention her little brother's pain that she witnessed much too often.  Olga was intelligent and sensitive enough to know the incredible risk she would be taking if she married.

But Boris is Olga's uncle, right?
I won't take that match seriously as what her parents did.
About marrying the OTMA to royal princes over Europe, it would have been good to see them labelled as "Queen of _____"
But as what others said, it's unlikely for them to accept the death of their parents (if all happened to marry)

No, Boris was her father's 1st cousin.  The confusion stems from the fact that older cousins in the Romanov family are often referred to as "uncle", when the blood relationship is actually cousin.

Yes, despite the age difference, Nicholas (1868), Boris (1877) and Dmitri (1891) were all first cousins.

Well, I'm not sure, but Nicholas' first cousins are supposed to be called Olga's uncles, right? :-\ Or is there another word? Or people just say: Boris and Dimitri are first cousins of Olga's father? :-\ :-\

Nicholas's first cousins would be Olga's second cousins, at least where I'm from.
