I do the same with my little town in CT.  I always say New Haven because the name of the town I live in wouldn't mean a thing to anyone but it is about 17 miles north of New Haven.

So I've been looking into expanding my collection of Romanov books (over time, of course as I just can't afford them) and, while lurking around this forum, noticed members talking about The Last Act Of A Tragedy. Upon looking up the book I saw that it includes documents about the last days, the murders, the concealment of their bodies and belongings etc. but the only copy I have so far been able to find was over 800 dollars. Then I remembered this book. For those of you who have read both books (or even just this one) can you tell me which one you prefer?

LAOAT is a book that I've been trying to find since I was first smitten by the Romanov bug. At the time of its publication it was purported to have some fairly rare and 'inside' info and details of the Ekaterinburg murders. I understand that some of its facts and information are no longer considered quite so esoteric, but I still think it would be a great read. And other than because of scarcity, i don't understand why its price would be so high. Although that may well be the key factor,since Last Act is almost impossible to obtain, even from libraries via ILL.


I'd say go for Ekaterinburg:Last days. It's very good in its own right.

The book "Young Stalin" has the same 1915 picture of the Siberian Political exiles as in LDR. Others in the photo beside Stalin Sverdlov and Goloshchkin are 2nd from the left cloth cap Nren Spandarian who dies in 1916 of natural causes. 4th from the left is Lev B Kamenev who was shot in 1936. The woman is Vera Shveitzer Spandarian's mistress. The child is Sverdlov's son Andrei one of Stalin's future secret police torturers. In later years as people fell out of favor Stalin had people deleted from the picture.

I made a goof it seems in LDR in the picture of Siberian exiles Kamenev is already removed. He was in the black spot next to Stalin.
