In May 1896 Nicholas ordered “to cover the Circular Hall terrace with an iron awning”. On June 25th, 1896 he adjusted the order to “instead of …permanent iron awning … to put a removable canopy on iron columns with means for tightening it … terrace must be lined with marble (white and gray) ...”

In May 1896 he also ordered “on the outside of the … Concert Hall and corners to arrange a balcony of the same type … as now in the Private Garden … entrance to the balcony should be constructed from the Concert Hall…”  In late December 1896 he adjusted the plan: “... has ordered not to make an inclined ramp to the exit from the balcony to the garden, and to make stairs, which is now approved.”  [RSHA F. 487]

Thank you Bryndis. I have never seen this 1913 photo on the balcony. I think it is Grand Duchess Olga A. between Tatiana and Olga. If it is confirmed, it is the first time I have been able to understand Olga A.'s height. She always appears as very tall yet here she is on a par with her niece Olga. It is deceptive when looking at old photos. I had always thought that Prince Albert was over 6' yet he was only 5'8"!
