Alix beating a carpet from an upper window was delightful!

That was the foreign language thing I was referring to in my post. Why would they bother to supply her another language, and in England, when she spoke English in Russia? Willie too. It's strange a  British show would go to so much trouble to put this in her mouth. Even most shows of space aliens don't supply a foreign language to their characters, why do it to someone who didn't need it?

Annie (Zdrasvudye!)

I think that in the imaginary sequence Alix is speaking Russian- a  nice connection to Mary's frustration with being called 'german' (her private lament truly moved me )- as both women made real efforts to recreate themselves as true citizens of their new homes...a real paradox!
Hence Alix would make every effort to be Russian and in this "vision" I thought that she was making a comment to one of the daughters (who in the first episode spent a great deal of time chatting amongsts themselves in Russian!)

Paka!

I did not even recognize which language it was supposed to be, good for you! I just thought it odd they'd give her any foreign accent at all when they didn't need to.

What also bugged me is them calling Queen Mary German.  Her father was, but Mary was born at Kensington Palace!

She may very well have been born in England, however, her father came from the Wurttemburg royal family, her mother, the Hanover. The British royal family was indeed German by heritage.
Cheers,

I know - QM was a Princess of Teck and all that. ;)  In the beginning they said QM was "German-born" (this from the Masterpiece Theatre bit before the film was shown).  I also didn't get why they had N II swimming so much, and then just getting out of the water telling the generals to mobilize... what ws THAT about?  It was sort of odd Prince John's fascination with GD Olga too.

I thought she was Marie. I did notice you could actually tell the Girls apart in  the ,murder scene.  Anastasia was the only one the Girls with long hair.

I did find that whole sequence with the farmhouse strange.

I just saw the FINAL part of the Lost Prince, which was a pretty overall show.

The scene that I knew was going to be hard was the celler scene.

Oh, man I cried :-X :'(

When the girls are shot and they are crying out as they are crawling away. When the main girl( which I think was Marie) was facing up with blood coming out of her mouth...I felt like I there.

I felt even worse when it showed the guards shaking one of the bodies up side down for any hidden jewels...

The blond one of OTMA was Olga, who appeared in Prince John's garden and in the first part was the one who spoke English to him.

The gal who played Olga.  She's a stage actress, apparently, who knows Russian.

This is what happens when I get bored and too curious about who plays who in movies. I was surprised there wasn't much showing of Prince John's other siblings.

Lanie

They wrote her up in the book "The Lost Prince" as Marie there is even a photo of her lookin out the window.

The fact that the Girls were never really individualized made me assume they had just made a mistake with her hair coloring.

Odd since the gal Vanessa Ackerman who plays Olga looks heck of a lot like the light-haired gal in the movie.  Haha.  I'll check when I get the DVD.

I just bought the DVD because I could not wait to see part II until Friday night.  A sad and touching story.  How I wish Prince John could have lived with the Imperial Family at his garden estate for many years.

One gets the impression that the Grand Duchesses and little Alyosha of whom we saw less here were cast for their angelic looks.  It would perhaps have been distracting to contrast the suffering Prince with the suffering Tsarevich.  This is Prince John's drama, and at the end I cried for this remarkable little fellow.

Both Queen Mary and Empress Alexandra had a son with a disease, yet they both responded differently. It seems Alexandra cared more her child than Queen Mary. Granted Prince John wasn't the heir, but a mother is a mother, and even a royal one would have shown more interest right?

I think that we are being too hard on poor Queen Mary!
Prince John seemed fine as a very young child and when both his epilipsy and learning disorders became noticable there was little that could be done at the turn of the 20th century. Epilepsy was not understood fully and there was - as far as I know- no therapy or medication for this condition available. As far as his semi-autistic state even today people are still struggling with this learning problem. In Lalla he found a wonderful and patient surrogate mother and teacher- She remained unusually attentive in a time when children were still encouraged to behave as tiny adults especially royal children!
