It would be great ,if an honest, truthful screen production could be made of the Romanovs. But I dont think  thats easily possible. So many stories, tales ,legends, truths, lies ,facts, fictions, fantasies.Im not sure that a real telling could be done.

This has been discussed before, basically with all the drama and intresting events from Alexander II to Nicholas II which lead to the Revolution, it would basically have to be a mini series ( a long one.) or just simply a weekly show. Its just too much information

Finally had a chance to watch my DVD on The Lost Prince.

Loved it.

Not so much for the portrayal of the royal characters and BTW for whoever asked about Edward's cough--he smoked cigars all day long. I digress.

I work with children and adults with disabilities, and that includes autism and epilepsy. For a TV show they were pretty bang on  in their facts/portrayal of a child that was inflicted with these disabilities. Especially back then. It is only in the past few years that families have begun to open up about their special children. That said, I can understand, though I don't agree with how and why Prince John was segregated from his family. The Royal Family had a role to play in society and to have Prince John in the public eye would have caused a major problem for them.

Why did Alix and May treat their children differently? They were different women, with different personalities, married to different men.  Why was Alexei in public and not Prince John? Alexei's disease was better protected than autism and an epiliptic fit would have been.

I just shrugged over the shoe incident. It is after all TV and as a few posters have pointed out, it was about Prince John.

Can't wait to watch Part 2

I think that I may have mentioned Edward's cough (my initial complaint was that he didnt cough enough! LOL)
Thank you for your remarks on learning disabilities. They were quite insiteful and clear.
Enjoy the rest of the production!

Ooooops, sorry. My faux pas. I need to clean my glasses.

Glad you enjoyed the comments about disabilities. Even today some children/adults are shunned by their parents and it is a guilt the parents have regarding this. It is getting better, but there is still a long way to go.

Massie is right when he said Nicholas was exceptional and so very supportive of Alix and Alexei. For that the man is a hero in every sense of the word as a family man. I have seen families break down and dissolve over having a disability in their family.

Again this can be seen if you look at the Spanish Royal Family, Irene and Henry, George and May and of course the IF. Each family has a different set of dynamics and this is what makes the difference in how their children are treated.

Nominated for Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Made-for-TV movie, did you hear? cool.
Hatred – this is a disgusting feeling. Yes, there is sport gambling, there is a striving to win. But to hate someone – this is awful! I think, that first of all you have to learn to respect your rival. -- Evgeni Plushenko

What put me off the whole programme, was the actress who played Prince John's 'governess'. She was in the Forsyte Saga too...& what a mess that was! I thought the Kaiser was too extreme as well...Miranda Richardson was good though.

Really? I liked Gina McKee--not so much in the Forsyte Saga but in this role. (And in Notting Hill a lot)

Bummed that Miranda Richardson (best thing about the movie I think even though she wasn't done any favors by the writers) lost the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries.  :(

Oh no, her voice sends you to sleep...in Forsyte I thought she needed a good shaking!!  ;) I never saw Notting Hill (I don't like Hugh Grant!)

do you think that the prince's parents (Miranda Richardson and Michael Gamdon) could have been Nicholas and Alexandra instead?

Miranda Richardson might have made a good Empress, but I think Michael Gambon (or whatever his name is) has too mean a face for the Tsar!

I only got to see the first part of this movie. I enjoyed it very much, but was disappointed that they didn't show the Romanovs much. I heard that they're shown again in the second part. Does anyone know where I can find any screen shots of the movie?

Question:
Are the Romanovs protrayed through this whole movie? or just a few episodes? If they are protrayed in just a few eps, which ones?

Cheers  ;D
