Interesting developments. And the reopening of the criminal case to boot.

What's the best possible result of such a case? The murderers/perpetrators have all been deceased for decades, and you can't bring a lawsuit for damages against the state because neither the Soviet Union nor the Russian Empire exist.

I suppose the best case scenario is that maybe historians will refer to events of July, 1918 as the "murders" they were rather than as "executions".
Once in a while you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right...

Apparently the exhumation was already done and samples taken. http://www.interfax-religion.com/?act=news&div=12343

They will be exhuming: http://www.theromanovfamily.com/romanov-remains-investigation-to-reopen/

Well, I hope they finally settle this affair.

By the way, not be a stickler, but the title of this thread does not precisely translate the text of the original Russian article.

It should read: "They want to bury the remains of..."

If "remains" was the subject, then the Russian would have to read something like "хотят быть похоронены".

Yeah, that's probably what will happen.  Those that did the deed are long dead, forever beyond the reach of human justice.

That's true it won't change anything, although I guess its still the principle of the matter. It's a small victory for the memory of the IF and a mark on the murderers. All their bloody work was done in vain because a hundred years later nobody is congratulating them on their deed and instead are doing the opposite.

Instead of just letting it be common knowledge among the historians and people who know the truth it will now be official record acknowledged by the government. Perhaps it will also reach some of the general public who thought differently. Some sources even written today still say "executed" and if this makes them start saying "murdered" then it will be worth it.

I have stated several times that I don't think this will ever be "over". The Imperial Family is in Heaven and beyond earthly cares. That the ROC continues to say this case has not been settled says more about themselves than about the Imperial Family.

The 18th is 2 1/2 weeks way. Is it still going forward? I would be really surprised if it did go through and wasn't delayed
