Robert Alexander, the author of The Kitchen Boy, posts here occasionally. Maybe he will be able to shed some more light on this...

In the meantime, I am wondering how they will pull off the surprise ending in a film, since the main idea of the book is that we are not supposed to know until the end who the "kitchen boy" was. In a book, it's easy to do, but a movie?

I've tried to research about it, but didn't find out anything besides that it will come out in 2010 - still two years to go!! Nevertheless, I'm still very much excited!
Me too! I am sure it is going to develope quickly!

2010? Must build a timemachine!! It's been ages since a romanov movie!

Yes, Robert Alexander has made a couple of posts here for his latest book, The Romanov Bride (which I'm planning to buy!). There are a few authors of Romanov books who post here, like Helen Rappaport (the author of Ekaterinburg: The Last Days Of The Romanovs) and Greg King and Penny Wilson.

Like Helen said, maybe Robert Alexander will see this thread and be able to give us some more information.

How exciting! I loved the book. I wonder how widely it'll be released?

I've been searching for more information myself but i can't find a thing, i really loved the book and hope that the movie will stay as close to the book as possible because it has an amazing story and has a surprising turn in the end. And i hope that they'll make clear that it is fiction based on true events so that it is clear to the main public that no one survived, so that all misunderstandings will be out of the world. Can't wait to see it.

Hi,

I decided to mail Judi Farkas, the person who holds the movie rights for The Kitchen Boy and i soon got a reply, so this is what she mailed me:

Quote
Thank you for your interest. THE KITCHEN BOY is under option, but it is not in production yet and thus we have no release date at this point.

Best,

Judi Farkas

It is not even in production, and only under option as she wrote. We can only hope they'll turn it into a movie and I certainly hope they will.

If it went through, it would be such a good film! I loved the book, it would be really great if it could actually turn into a full-length film! I would be the first one in line to buy a ticket!  :)

Your welcome,

Lets keep our hopes up,

I'm in need in a new Romanov-movie, and if it is based on the book it would be great :) But ofcourse they'll need to tell that all the remains are found by now, so there are no misunderstandings about their fate, since people seem to believe movies based on historical events, even if its being said there is fiction in it...

Yes, but some things in The Kitchen Boy are based on real historical events. I think Robert Alexander used NII and Alix diaries, different accouts for easier describing their days at Ipatiev...
Thank you very much, Imperial_Grounds, for your infos!  ;)

Your welcome,

And yea I know that he used the diary, like the last day, Alexei's cold. Everyone being worried about Lenka, Alexandra described it in her diary, and we have Kerensky's accounts too, but what i meant is that people might believe Maria survived, that's why i would like to see it at the end of the movie, so that it is clear there are no survivors...

I Know, but it would only be fair to the IF that the world knows the truth, and at the end of the movie there could be a statement that says that the movie is based on a true story, but that it is fictionalised, and that in fact no one survived. That wouldn't be that hard, would it?

Thanks for telling us more information, Imperial_Grounds!

Currently reading this book simultaneously with Rasputin's Daughter by the same author; so far have enjoyed it immensely.

I'm at the point where the murders have just been committed and the debacle of moving the bodies into the forest has begun.

Must admit I'm interested to see where the storyline is leading to.
