It is an amazing book.

I still haven't read Rasputin's Daughter and The Romanov Bride but to be honest I'm hoping they'll translate them too

Translate them? You mean into French or Flemish? I'm asking that because I see from your profile you are from Belgium.

In to Flemish, as they did with The Kitchenboy

Probably the best way to help a book get translated into a language other than the original it was initially printed is to write the publisher. These days, "writing" would most definitely mean sending an e-mail.

BTW: I'm assuming English is your second language, but it's so good that one would most likely never know that!

Yes, I wrote a mail to the publisher since there doesn't seem to be an address for Robert Alexander, which I understand But the mail never arrived. Hotmail couldn't send it or something, and I've tried several times, and every time i get that same reply so...

Thank you for the compliment, by the way. Yes English is my second language indeed, I never talk it with family but on forums, and with friends on MSN. My teacher once said I should write an English book - he told me once I'm the best of my year :-[;D  But thanks for the compliment.

On the American edition I'm currently reading of Rasputin's Daughter (with a copyright of 2006) the publisher is listed as

Viking
375 Hudson Street
New York, NY 10014

www.penguin.com

Is this e-mail above the one you sent your message to?

Also: some companies here in the USA frown upon receiving correspondence from free e-mail such as Hotmail, Yahoo and the like. Too much spam, hoaxes and viruses emanate from those domains. I'm not saying that is why your message was bounced, but it certainly could be a reason.

As to an imminent appearance of this book as a movie, in my opinion, I would not hold my breath.  I am aware of the ending of the book and it obviously does not and cannot reflect the recent investigatory outcome.  I feel certain that a movie producer would NOT have a winner on his/her hands, thus no real profit-------and that's the bottom line with movies.  The mystique has been shattered. The very fact that we now have a board topic questioning the sustained popularity of the Imperial Family in the light of the recent lab reports ("Would You Still Be Fans of OTMA If They Didn't Die.......) has brought forth some "true confessions" that their popularity/appeal from former impassioned supporters here is waning.  Another sign is in the topics listed each day for discussion.  More and more, OTHER royalty is replacing the Romanovs.   I occasionally peruse the membership participation lists.  While we continue to slowly grow, a great number of people are registered who have NEVER posted (or posted a few times literally YEARS ago).  We certainly cannot accurately gauge their continuing (?) interest in this fashion.  And a number of the younger members have "grown up" in their emotional and chronological attachment to certain members of the IF and have "left the ship."  People and things go through generally positive cycles and I think that in the long run this is healthy.    AP

I don't really post often on here so I felt that post was partially directed at me. I lurk a lot. And I found aleksandr pavlovich's post very interesting. I do believe there are some people who are losing interest. But at the same time I believe the fact that they have found the bodies doesn't change the appeal. The mystery might be fading, but it's still part of their story. It doesn't just disappear. I know for a fact that there are people who still get interested in the Romanovs. My friend's mother asked to borrow some of my books lately because she found them fascinating (and this was after the missing bodies had been found).

There are other things that attract people to the Romanovs not just the mystery. Their lives and the unbelievably love they had for each other, their death alone (not just the mystery of it...but the horror of it), their beauty, etc. There are other reasons people love them. I don't think their appeal will truly fade.

I think enough people would enjoy the movie if it was done right, because a lot of people enjoyed the book. It might not be the big movie of the year, but I believe it can be successful. The fun of movies is that they don't have to be 100% historically correct. They can be just fun and speculation. It doesn't have to be true to be good.

Thank you, "Kuna," for your coherent and mature viewpoint and contribution!  It is good to see you here again.  However, continue to watch the topic postings and watch the drift away from the last Romanov reigning family. (Even one of the longer-established creators of the many tiresome Romanov personal sites says that she believes that she will now not update her site due to loss of interest.)    Here, this IS also a "Royalty Discussion Forum."  In my opinion, I think it is healthy for other dynasties to be explored (Hesse, Windsor, Habsburg, etc.), after all, as humorous examples, we can only discuss Romanov dog excrement on a carpet so many times,  hairstyles, reincarnation, etc.    An English journalist, Bagehot, once wrote (and this is NOT an exact quote) that "we must not let light in" (upon the mystique of the Briitish monarchy).  Well, the curtains are ripped away, full DNA testing, etc., etc, have been trained upon the "mystique" of the Nicholas II group and the mystique IS becoming passe.  Without the terrible deaths/resultant AA controversy, it would have diminished long ago.  As to their (mutual marital and family) "love" ....there are plenty of equally good examples all over the royalty spectrum.   The present  Nicholas II family inclusions here have been/are circular----i.e. young new ones, for what ever reasons, not checking the Alexander Palace archive/s and asking the same questions over and over, ad infinitum.  It has merely become a matter of over-identification/idol-type worship for them ("Tatiana" is my sister, I only want the best for her," etc. ).  In a VERY round-about way, I think "The Kitchen Boy," MIGHT......just MIGHT  make it into a TV-type movie, NOT as a FULL-FLEDGED movie-production, let alone a success.  Interest does not necessarily equal profit.  Regardless, your courteous opinion is indeed most appreciated !    Best regards,  AP

I do agree posting goes more to other Royalty, guilty of it myself, but I believe that is because most people on here know most on the lives of the IF and therefore want to gain up on new information. I don't think this movie will be made, not by 2010 for sure, since there is no news on IMDB yet. Maybe some film might be made around 2013, or 2018, though history does not appeal to most young viewers and movie mostly are made for them(they spend the most on movies and attributes etc), though Costume-drama brings history to the screen more often these days(The Young Victoria, The Duchess etc...) and in the end can bring people closer with a passion for history.

I do post less myself, only because there is more posting on other Dynasty's, and the one I find highly intresting is that of the Romanov's, though a few members of the Habsburg Dynasty and the Windsor's do intrest me I keep a greater passion for Romanov History(though I realise I post little on former rulers - I read more)
