Thanks! That was really cool about the Google Maps. Is that the actual house left there, or was the whole thing demolished and that is how the swords were discovered?
It seems like number 7 is the big, tall brick building away from the street, between the post-war apartment block at number 5 and the Imperial era mansion at number 9. Hard to tell how old it is. Looks more like a warehouse than a noble mansion! But the original house must have been demolished in 1948. The text used the word "сносе", demolition. The stash was found in a secret cache between the ground floor and the basement.
They were very close to the Palace! The wife of Nikolai Plaoutine, Maria, under whose name the house was listed, was a lady in waiting to the Empress.
Ah, I see.
Some of the swords were on display in 2009, is that correct? Is there any chance that they gave information about where the exhibit was? It would be interesting to see if I could contact someone who may have a picture of the sword/s on display.
It seems like it was at the Admiralty Arsenal in St. Petersburg, in the summer of 2009 and was about hussars. Only the sabre from the stash was exposed and there was some kind of problem with a photo? so that only the info text at the bottom of the page about that sabre remains from the exhibition?
The stash is preserved in готкрытом фонде оружия Государственного музея-заповедника Царское Село = public / open? trust of arms of the State Museum Preserve of Tsarskoe Selo.
