Semi-Circular Hall
« on: July 10, 2016, 05:21:27 PM »
Nicholas II wrote in his diary on Friday, April 9th, 1910 "... Upon arriving home I looked over the archeological finds of last year ..."

I discovered a photo of the "Exhibition of the Imperial Archaeological Commission of 9 April 1910 in Tsarskoe Selo in the Semi-Circular hall of the Alexander Palace. In the foreground on the left - the findings of the Grand Ulskogo mound in the Kuban River. Photo from the archives of IHMC RAS":

Were the "trees" permanent or for that day's display?

Joanna - thanks for all the interesting facts and photos you've been posting on different topics.   I'm a little confused about the photo you posted here of the Semi-Circular Hall.  Is that really the location of this display?   I can't read the Russian underneath, but the photo doesn't resemble any part of the semi-circular hall that I've ever seen unless this is an off-shoot of the hall itself.   Can someone ease my confusion.

I see no reason to believe it wasn't held there- the photo shows the doorway and 2 fireplaces that are on the opposite wall of the Semi-circular Hall. The 2 large paintings over the fireplaces have also remained in place.

Compare the photo above with this one of the Hall:

Thanks for posting the photo Ortino.  Obviously it's the same room.

Thank you for your kind words. The photographer was standing with the windows behind him, facing the door. I had translated the caption in quotes for all in my post.

A fantastic panorama of the room today:
