In regard to the first photo-- Tatiana has hooked the heels of her shoes in the bottom bar of a railing (I'm not sure if it is a garden fence railing, balcony railing...) and has thrown her weight forward so that her toes are pointed.  The bottom bar is high enough to keep her totally off of the ground.  You can see that she is holding the topmost bar with her right hand, but the rest of the railing is pretty much impossible to see in this photo.  I used to do this all the time as a child.

I understand what you mean. It makes perfect sense! I just cannot see the railing in the photo because it's so dark!

I've seen alot of these "trick photographs" coming from the Grand Duchesses. I think they were mostly inside jokes ment to just be a game. Whoever took thoes photographs must have been an excellent photographer.

Of course! Anastsia liked to double expose the pics she took o make them look like there was a ghost hovering over her...i've seen some of the tsarina sitting in the window chair and she looks as if she is looking at threee directions at once. think of it as an early 20th century photoshop!

I think that Tatiana is holding on to soemthing in that pic...she looks to free-expresioned to be standing on her toes, which is no easy task!

actually, i think she just has earmuffs on, because at the time asnastasia's hair looked not long enough to have that big of a bun on both sides, and Alix NEVER let the younger two put up there hair until they were at least 16. I'm suprised the age wasnt 18, but whatever!
Because isnt 18 considered an adult?
