Can someone tell me where that last picture was taken?  I've seen that series of photos in Beinecke's and always wondered where that was taken -- anyone?

Yes Granduchess -- the one of Alexandra laying on the chaise with the girls around her -- I don't think it is the Alexander Palace though -- definitely not Alix's balcony as I know it at least -- maybe you are right about Peterhof --- anyone else know for certain?   ???

I am fairly sure that the photo was taken in Livadia.

Livadia or Peterhof -- I have no idea which one it might be.  Laura, if it is Livadia would it be the "old" Livadia I'm assuming?

I really don't know, either. I don't think it's Peterhof, because the dacha there was built of pink and yellow bricks, and you can always see the stripes in the photos. Janet is correct -- if it was taken in Livadia, they must be at the old palace, because the new one wasn't completed until 1911.

If the new palace wasn't finished until 1911, Marie would have been 12, or at least her early teens.  In that photo, she looks as if she is from the ages of 7-10.

The series was taken in Ropsha. Anna Virubova has written it in the top of the page.

Ropsha is a palace, situated at 20 km south of Peterhof, and 80 meters over the level of the sea. It was surrounded by fish farming, orangeries and vineyards.

The Palace, apparently, is about to be restored, and the Hermitage museum is thinking about using it for expositions...

As for the picture, here's who I think it is, from left to right: Tatiana, Olga, Anastasia, and Mariya.
