I think it is really from 1914, for I saw Maria wearing this same outfit in another pic where she is with her sisters...a 1914 pic, of course.

It's 1914. Look at any pictures from that time and you'll see it's exactly the same..

Yes I agree I think Maria was the prettiest that is why I enjoy coloring pictures of her! I think Ella was the most attractive and pretty of the Romanovs!

she looks very short there but she stands lower then them so you cant realy match there heights.
They were all pretty but in other ways i i alwyas liked tatiana her beauty not much people look like her i also think she dosnt realy look like a romanov or hesse

Can you please explain who are refering to as being short? Are you talking about Anastasia because she does appear realy short, becuase, Maria is not short she appears tall. Yes, your right Joyann, Tatiana does'nt look that much like Hesse or Romanov. She looks quite different, like her own.

See, it was taken in 1914 becuase Maria has the same outfit on as this photo has. It was proven to be taken in 1914, so the one clock posted has to be taken in 1914.

Just a general question here - are there any actual colour photos of Maria and the rest of the Romanovs - as opposed to black and white photos that have been coloured on the computer?

There were no colour photos taken of the Imperial Family or at least there are none that we know of.

i dont think it was possible to take any colored photographs in that time

It was possible. There are coloured photographs that were taken in Russia before the Revolution

Apparently the same photographer who took the coloured pictures (see Jelisaveta's post) took pictures of the Imperial Family in 1913 I think...but nobody knows for sure if they still exist. Wouldn't that be fantastic if they would be found?

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum, and I had to email in a request to approve my account, but I'm really happy to be a part now. There's just so many things I want to say!    Well ok, not really, but I'm pretty excited to start sharing pictures and discuss them and what not. I have a fairly extensive collection for some reason. Here's just a couple to go along with my little personal intro.

Maria and I share this strange habit for being the only one looking away from the camera in every group shot . I don't know why, but it's honestly something I've always done, way before I got into the Romanov's. I think maybe my belief is that it looks more dramatic.


I think this one is priceless purely for the expression. Clearly she was not amused by something .

A somewhat lesser known photo (at least I think it's lesser known), it's really a shame one's like this have degraded over time to be so light in colour, too much exposure to light maybe?

I cut this out of the bigger one to make it easier too see that it's Maria.
