Prayer Rule of the Romanovs
« on: December 06, 2016, 12:26:52 AM »
I'm not sure if this question has ever been asked before or if anyone knows for sure.

I was wondering, are there certain prayers that the Romanovs used like from a Psalter or a certain prayer book during their daily prayers?

I know that the family was deeply religious and read both the Bible and maybe other religious books but I don't know if there are certain prayers that they used.

For instant, I pray using my Jordanville Orthodox prayer book but I don't know if the Romanovs had such a book.

So any help would be great!

Thank you very much!

This sounds like a question for Inok Nikolai!!

If the Russian Orthodox Church is similar to the Western Churches on this point, there will be a cycle of prayers and Biblical readings for each saint's day and other important days. In the Church of England, the prayers are called Collects for the Day. The Collects are printed in the  Book of Common Prayer, along with the readings. For example, today is St Nicholas's Day, so there will be particular prayers and readings for that.

Given that the Imperial Family were very religious, and followed conventional Orthodox practices, I imagine they will have done something along these lines.

I agree.  Next time he's on, perhaps he can answer it.
