Testing of Paternal (Nuclear) DNA
« on: February 01, 2018, 10:56:02 AM »
I have viewed a number of websites concerning DNA testing of the Romanov remains and Anna Anderson tissue and all seem to refer exclusively to matches of the Mitochondrial (Maternal) DNA with that of living descendants. Nuclear DNA seems to have been extracted but I cannot find any record of tests with living descendants in the paternal line.

There is an obvious implication here; feeling on this site seems to be that Tzar Nicholas 2nd was not the sort of man who would have kept a Mistress outside marriage and had a child by her and I respect that. But is it possible that Anna Anderson was the illegitimate daughter of a blood relative of the Tzar in the male line? Does anyone know of any investigations that have been carried out to establish this?

DNA : girls don't inherit YDNA. They inherit 50% of nuclear (autosomal) DNA from each parent, and mtDNA from their mothers . It's all  been tested, see below , and it's being tested yet again.

As I understand it, at the time the bodies were discovered and tested, mDNA testing was the only kind available for testing bones. I'm not sure whether that is still the case.

Obviously Lochlanach is right that YDNA passes exclusively down the male line.

Later DNA tests included the standard forensic (autosomal) CODIS DNA tests that can confirm close relationships, and Y-DNA tests for males. All proved positive for the Romanov family when compared with appropriate living relatives.

Nuclear DNA tests undertaken after the first round proved that the 5 corpses believed to be those of Nicholas and Alexandra's children were in fact fathered by Nicholas II in addition to being mothered by Alexandra. Anna Anderson has been proven to have no relationship to either of the two sovereigns and was in fact Franziska Shankowska.

Yeah, DNA testing has completely debunked the idea that any of them survived.
