Thanks for the link, I never knew there was a footage catalog.

Also, there is a small footage I especially love where we can see the family and the Grand Duchess laughing, especially Maria : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ctF8IrOfak&t=14m45s
The first time I watch it, it was so unreal to me.

I clicked on the link, Page, and found myself at a post I looked at a few years ago.  Still it was nice to go back and re-watch - until I looked up at the clock and was horrified at how much time had passed!

I can't get the video Sledge posted of the visit to Romania out of my head.  It's clarity and length make it the best I've seen.  Among the details that haunt me are Olga and Tatiana formally bowing in turn to the queen (evidencing training as they were growing up), and the cheerful expressions on Tatiana's face as she chats with those around her.  Best of all is the end, when everybody rises.  Marie makes a beeline right for the baby in Olga's lap and snatches him up, underscoring everthing we've ever read about her love of children.  It's as though she couldn't wait to get her hands on that baby.

I don't know if it's me, but it is Maria's reaction I find the most troubling, I feel like she's bored or maybe put away from the discussion, we can see she makes a weird face at a moment. Also, few minutes after that we can see the Grand Duchesses clearly speak with the Romanian nobles during the parade. I wish I could know what they were saying or even the sound of their voices.

I can't wait untill a (native) Russophone is so kind as to transscribe (not necessarily translate) the whole sequence and point out in detail which pecularities AIII's speech has.

Is anyone up to the task?
Берёзы севера мне милы,—
Их грустный, опущённый вид,
Как речь безмолвная могилы,
Горячку сердца холодит.

(Афанасий Фет: «Ивы и берёзы», 1843 / 1856)
