Ella's Role
« on: March 11, 2019, 07:01:29 AM »
Did Nicholas and Alexandra ever discover that Ella had encouraged Dimitri?

I know that Ella and Alix had their differences, so to speak, over the years -- but did she ever find out what her sister did to her good friend?

It's actually something I've struggled with in terms of my personal "image" of Ella.  There's Ella who opened a convent.  Ella who was made a saint.  Ella who held the hand of a dying peasant.  And then finally Ella who encouraged murder.

I would say yes Ella did know about the plot in advance and after the murder sent congratulatory telegrams to Dmtrin P and Zinaida Yusupova that were intercepted and copies sent to Nicholas and Alexandra. See the book "Killing Rasputin" M Nelipa

Alexandra and Ella already weren't on the best of terms due to Ella's disapproval of Rasputin.  But she must still have felt  confusion, anger, and betrayal when she read the contents of the intercepted communications.  This on top of her devastation at Rasputin's murder must have been terribly hard on her.

Ella certainly was aware of the conspiracy in advance and her actions after the happening are less than right-minded.
