Alexandra,Countess of Frederiksborg
« on: February 08, 2005, 08:32:35 AM »
Even though she is not a royal of older times, i think she is an amazing woman who i would like to mentioned here, since her seperation and upcoming divorce from Queen Margrethes son, Prince Joachim.
It is the first divorce in the royal family since Frederik VII divorced his second wife, Crown Princess Mariane in 1846.
She is very popular in Denmark, born in Hong Kong, called the orientel flower of european royalty, she made the transition from power business woman  to a princess in the oldest monarcy in the world, and a farmers wife to perfection!
The divorce is being handled very well from all parties, another example of the way other countries handle the monarchy institution then the british.

I haven't really been following this story but did read they were getting a divorce. It seems so sad. Were there any specific reasons why?

The royal family hasnt said why they are getting divorced, but in the press one of the reasons is Prince Joachim and his drinking and clubbing, which he has been doing a lot of...
People believe its Alexandra who mostly wants out of the marriage, and the sympathy goes to her.

I just read about this last night--in a newspaper, I believe. From what I recall, they had been married about 10 years and have a couple of children . . . or am I thinking of another divorcing royal couple?

Y'know, ever since the debacle of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's marriage, I've sorta lost track of the current European royals milieu. For awhile it was rather nice to think that two people in a royal setting could meet, marry, and live happily ever after  ::) . . . but eventually I became jaded about the whole process. So much for youthful idealism!  :'(

It sounds like them. They got married in 1995 and have two sons, Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix..
Yes, things have changed, although royals also got divorced in the past.
I think Denmark had three royal divorces in the 19 century.

Yes, this is them ... and the announcement came in the summer, but must have been in preparation for some time.  The house that Alexandra will move into after the divorce was purchased in February 2004, and put in her name on her 40th birthday in June ...

She still seems to be very popular though and isn't she going to be continuing limited royal duties? I'm not very au courant on modern royals but that's what I seem to remember reading. She is certainly very lovely and elegant as are so many young princesses today. One of the few articles I remember was on the fashion style of some of them showing some of the styles they prefer. Alexandra, not being that young (I hope I look that good at 40!), added a certain panache--nothing frumpy there. Plus, being part-Asian, she added a certain exotic quality to the European group. The divorce is certainly being handled well unlike the British train wrecks.  :-/ (Though Sarah & Andrew are certainly on good terms themselves)

Alexandra is VERY popular.
She will continue her functions as protector of various institutions. As for the more official duties such as state dinners and cours, appearing on the balcony, i dont know. But it would be strange if she didnt attend some of it, her being royalty and princess and living in the country.

I read somewhere that Alexandra had surgery to make her eyes appear more "Westernized." Is this true?

Any idea what the underlying reason for the divorce is??
She does seem so popular, and I can imagine that they know they had better handle better than the disasters of England, and the Buckingham Palace set.

I dont think the eye story is true at all!
As for the divorce, the underlying reason is that she is more mature and a perfectionist (going on press stories and the masses), and that he as stated likes to drink and party. There is also reports of him having to much fun with the girls....
I have seen him a couple of times in the past drinking his share in clubs. Quit interesting when he use to have a reputation of being very correct and mature, and kind of boring...

Now do you mean you actually saw him drinking? Goodness! And he does come across as kind of...boring like you said, on the Royal Family dvd... Goes to show ya it's always the quiet and boring ones you have to watch out for!  ;)

The divorce is now final, and she is HH Princess Alexandra, countess of Frederiksborg! And the last in rank in the royal family, but still a member....
