--- Quote ---I just read about this last night--in a newspaper, I believe. From what I recall, they had been married about 10 years and have a couple of children . . . or am I thinking of another divorcing royal couple? "

Yes, this is them ... and the announcement came in the summer, but must have been in preparation for some time.  The house that Alexandra will move into after the divorce was purchased in February 2004, and put in her name on her 40th birthday in June ...

grandduchessella:
She still seems to be very popular though and isn't she going to be continuing limited royal duties? I'm not very au courant on modern royals but that's what I seem to remember reading. She is certainly very lovely and elegant as are so many young princesses today. One of the few articles I remember was on the fashion style of some of them showing some of the styles they prefer. Alexandra, not being that young (I hope I look that good at 40!), added a certain panache--nothing frumpy there. Plus, being part-Asian, she added a certain exotic quality to the European group. The divorce is certainly being handled well unlike the British train wrecks.  :-/ (Though Sarah & Andrew are certainly on good terms themselves)

During the separation period Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra retains her present title and will be addressed as Her Highness Princess Alexandra after the divorce. Prince Joachim and Princess Alexandra state in this connection: "After long and difficult considerations we have mutually decided to apply for a separation order and will subsequently seek a divorce. We are in agreement on theconditions and will undertake joint custody of our children. We wish as far as possible to maintain our official functions and continue.......

kmerov:
Alexandra is VERY popular.
She will continue her functions as protector of various institutions. As for the more official duties such as state dinners and cours, appearing on the balcony, i dont know. But it would be strange if she didnt attend some of it, her being royalty and princess and living in the country.

Alicky1872:
I read somewhere that Alexandra had surgery to make her eyes appear more "Westernized." Is this true?

Mgmstl:
Any idea what the underlying reason for the divorce is??
She does seem so popular, and I can imagine that they know they had better handle better than the disasters of England, and the Buckingham Palace set.
