I thought the fellow with the beard was Alfred rather than Edward VII. They looked quite similar.

Any idea when this was taken? Young Alfred died in 1899, aged 25, and Ernst and Victoria Melita's marriage was on the rocks from 1897.

I think it's 1899, when Nicholas visited Darmstadt. They wear traditional German hunting hats
