In every formal photo of her I always see her in pearls or diamonds, but mostly pearls. Pearls must be her favorite.

Yes. Pearl used cost more than now. The Cartier Building in NYC was bought by a strand of perfect pearls.

She was not in Russia to get her jewels out.She returned home to Greece at the outbreak of war!

That means unlike her cousin Missy & VMH who deposited their jewels in Russia, she did not. Very interesting.

Queen Marie sent them for safekeeping but didn't VMH leave them because she was caught in Russia during the outbreak of WW1 and had to return very quickly? I wouldn't really say she deposited them there but rather they had to be left behind.

I thought VMH left it there for safe keeping too...although one would have thought Russia would be safer than "jolly old England" ? Most certainly QV would not have left anything there, she distrusts that country.

I read that Victoria MH left her jewels with her sister the empress. and don't forgot that she has to go through the front lines. I didn't think she or some others saw the really danger of the revolution.
